North Central Washington Bears
« on: August 29, 2010, 06:16:35 PM »
So, anyone in the upper Okanogan Valley seeing anything? I've been up Toats Coulee a bunch now and have only come across old sign down low. Nothing up higher, berries still looking to be in terrible shape. The only bears I've seen this fall are down low in the Chopaka Valley feeding on apricots on private property in peoples yards. And those have been very small bears.
I read another post where someone said they saw one up on Palmer mountain and I've talked to one local old timer who took a bear, but he won't give up his honey hole. With the berries not shaping up so well this early does anyone have any ideas what they might be feeding on? I've been concentrating on the water sources, but no luck. Anyone have any pointers. If anyone has any intimate knowledge of big choke cherry patches on public land I'd love to hear about em.  All I can find are scattered trees, and mostly on private property. I've heard that they're generally into the choke cherries this time of year.
Toats Coulee has always paid off for me, normally they're eating the currants right now, so I'm really trying to understand what the bears are up to this year. They've got me stumped!

Might be a good chance to try some calling, don't know if a fawn in distress call will work or not....sure might be a good time to try.
