Tooth Extraction Question
« on: August 10, 2010, 12:34:37 PM »
So, when I get my first bear I'm good with skinning, dragging, shooting, most everything else. However, to pull the tooth do you just grab that sucker with pliers and yank? Wouldn't want to break it off or anything.

yep good set of pliers will get it done if you are worried about it you can cut the gum with a knife first to loosen it up. then just yank away.

or you can drag it in the house and tie a string to it and then to the door and slam the door. i guess that would work as well

he is actually a good guy and brings his rigs to me for work and we laugh and joke from time to time, he once said "oops" while working in my mouth with a jackhammer, and with my immediate response he thought he was the funniest guy in the world. so if i manage a bear this year, i am gonna call him and tell him i need an emergency extraction and back the truck right to his front door and tell him to have at it. he is not a big outdoors guy so i would imagine that the look on his face will be priceless when i drop the tailgate  :chuckle:

fun one to play on dentists is start screaming "it burns!!!" as soon as the xray of your face is done (don't wanna pay double). Usually good for a laugh.

I always run a scalpel blade around the tooth and them pull it out.  If you leave marks on the tooth or break off the root sometimes they can't get an accurate age.

The tooth is cut length wise from root to crown. Rule of thumb is to prserve as much length as possible. If they are looking for tetracycline the root would be helpful.
