Like most people who have a big bull tag you have dreams of 400 bulls everywhere. After some scouting trips my dreams semed to be very much a reality.
I showed up a few days before my seson so I could do some more scouting and hit up all the deer camps to see what they have seen out there.  After collecting what I have learned it was time to put it into action.  God has a way of screwing up my plans :chuckle:
The day before the opener it started snowing. Well it did not stop for three days.  I am not sure about most people but my experience has been when it was coming down like it was for the first time of the year the Elk do not move not to mention the fog... Count 3 days down with very little action. The snow finally stopped and melting. With this came alot of close encounters but nothing with any size. Then comes the regular opener and I have to pass on 3 spikes and a 2x3..
I was having problems finding anything with real size then "The Hunt" showed up nd offered his help. I cannot say how cool it was for him to do that. We had a great day and I did see some real bruisers that day but could not close the deal.
After always being just a little late several times because of unforssen circumstances things started happening. which was a good thing because I was starting to doubt things and My judgment calls. On thursday My buddies and I found a dead bull. Not a big one  but a dead bull. After reporting it and talking with some bio's we determined it was at last three days old or more  because of what we found on it.

This is where things that I would never think could happen..... Happened
That night the local game warden showed up at our camp. I was not there but he talked with some of my buddies and had a offer that I am blown away by and was wondering if I was interested. My buddies say well Ross can be pretty pig headed but I think he might want to. When I get back they tell me so I call the Game warden to talk about it.. He proceedes to tell me that some hunters on the other side of the unit have been seeing a nice bull but it is injured and they wanted him to do something about it. He asked me If I would be willing to go meet these guys and take a look at the bull. Well with all these weird things happening I could not look a gift horse in the mouth. So I agreedto see if I was interested in this bull.
I got up at 4 to meet the warden at 6:30. He guides me to this camp that is well hidden. He introduces me to this guy and as I am putting my hand out to shake , This guy says " Rosscrazyelk?"  It turns out to be JimKD8. Wow what a small world.
Here I try to do the right thing to report this dad bull and here is Jim trying to do the right thing by not letting this Elk suffer anymore pain.
I have dubbed this bull " The Right Bull"
Well after some more introductions we head off to find this bull. I was told we would be on him in 30 minutes  well almost 4 hours laer Nate aka red Star and I have been in this creek bed way to long so I decide I have to get  out of here and get a better look above all these trees . It tuned out to be a good decision... 200 yards later There I see him trying to go up hill. I drop to my knee. He kept moving so I had to position my self 3 times before I could get the shot off.

I could only imagine what Nate was thinking as I was doing my Primos cheer by pumping my fist in the air and kicking the Air as well. Not to mention some hoots and hollars.
I have had alot of weird things happen to me that have all pointed toward this hunt that I could not even know where to start or even how to explain it. And the fact that I got my bull this way by meeting a fellow Hunt wa member who both of us were doing the "Right " thing. I could not be more happier in how this turned out. I do not care if I did not meet my personal goal. I will never regret or forget this hunt...
I want to thank everyone who helped me with Information. BlueBulls, Yelp, Bucklucky, Bowandhose, Kudman, Gunwarnet, Dvaporator, Pathfinder, JimmyT.
Also those who let me borrow somethings that aided in my scouting and hunt. 7 mag, Del.
Hunt for coming out and helping me  try to find those sneaky big bulls.
Besides my lifelong hunting buddies who are always there for me and I for them Tom, Woody, Jeremy, Stan, Pat.
I really want to thank JIMKD8, RedStar, Rick, and Jack. You guys really helped make my dream of a big bull come true. Also made the pack out easier then it should  of been. :)

Thank you for following my journal and making my experience one that will stay in my mind forever. Here are some more pics of my hunt.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention. This bull was thought to be shot in the leg but there were no outer wounds to determine that. After doing our CSI work we found a growth on his lef that prevented him fromwalking right. After taking apart the leg and thinking we would find a old broad head or something. after we cut the muscles off the joints in his knees were not even connected and wre rubbed smooth. I think he was like this for a long time.. Oh we did find one thing. While caping him we found someone shot him just below his antler base with a bullet. I bet that guy was pissed :chuckle:
