old scopes
« on: March 11, 2008, 08:15:12 AM »
does anyone have or use an older scope, or an old fixed power?.... for the longest time, the only scope my 338 wore was an old weaver k-4... only thing that could stand up to the pounding... i still like it.

Hey slenk, I had an old lyman all american in 4x, dad had it for years, I had it for years, finally something loosened, my dad still has it, wants it fixed. Damned good scope. Shot a ton of deer and a few Elk with it on a Rem 721 in .270.

you know, honest to john, it would be fine by me if all the scope makers would take a year or two off..
i really liked my k-4 for its slimness, low weight, steel strength, and sensible objective sizes.  only complaint was the rather thin wires.

I have a bunch of K-3's that are used as presighted backup scopes and K-1.5's that are on lever guns.

I have a old K 6, A 60s REDFIELD 23/4 and a leuplod 3, varii x 1 I think, could be a 2 3/4, havn't loolked at in a while. Was allways gonna put the Redfield on a 22 put didn't get around to it. All are fine cross hairs and it can't see that good! All were on rifles I picked up  here and there. The leuplod was on a 1903 I pickup and was gonna build something outa. paid $100 for that and a 1917 Enfield from a coworker of the wife. Gave the 03 to my sons bud to get him started, gave the Enfield to one of my sisters boys.

2x7 leopold on all my rifles compliments of Idabooner.   Great scope.   I looked on e-bay the other day and they still catch a pretty decent price.

I have an old Vari-X III on my 7mm.  It's at least 30 yrs old...sent it back to leupold last year to have it inspected, etc....they put new glass in it for free, replace a few other components....ready for another 30 yrs

I didn't know they even made the VX-III 30 years ago?? I thought it was within the last 15 years or so? But I could be wrong. But thats great that Leupold stood behind their product and replaced the glass.  I've had similar results from them.  Couldn't be happier with their products.
