Eastons Axis "Do you like them?"
« on: August 14, 2010, 04:05:42 PM »
I just bought a dozen of Eastons Axis for my hunting arrows this year.  Does anyone on here shoot the Axis and how do you like them?

Thanks!

I shot the regular Easton axis last year, loved them.  Got the Easton Axis FMJ this year for a heavier arrow, love them to :)

They're simply tougher than most arrows because of the wall thickness.  You'll get more shots out of a dozen than say Gold Tips because you won't be breaking them at the insert or cracking them at the nock.  They test great on my spine tester, also.  That's why I shoot them for hunting, not any of the advertising reasons.

Great,
Why do they say you get more penetration with the Axis :dunno:

FOB's on one end, Shuttle T's in 125 grain on the other for me.

As for the penetration issue.  Having the shaft diameter be smaller than the ferrule diameter makes for far less shaft drag as the hole made by the broadhead will be bigger than the shaft.  Dr. Ashby's extensive research on penetration showed that a broadhead larger than the shaft diameter created 65% of the drag compared to a same-size head and shaft combo.

The physics of a small shaft penetrating better than a larger shaft due to concentration of mass is largely a theoretical discussion; yeah, it makes a difference, but actually seeing it in the field or measuring it is another story.

i hunted new zealand last year with the fmj's and they were very good. i still like my goldtips a bit better. i have shot the axis "regular" as well they do penetrate more because of the smaller diameter. i did have a few that cracked to the hidden insert. but overall a good arrow probably top 3 for me.

hated them, hit anything remotely solid and the ends would split, crack. I will stick with my ACC's

I love my axis arrows, but there all I have ever shot. Matched up with blazers and slick tricks.

I can't switch from my gold tips xt hunters they have the same straightness .003 and if I blow through every elk I ever shot what more penetration would I need.  Oh yeah and the gold tips are cheaper
