Some shooting at the range
« on: August 15, 2010, 09:35:21 PM »
Went out to Ft Lewis' range for some rifle and pistol shooting. Had moved the scope around on my 270 so shot one at 25 yards then backed it out to 200. First group had two less than an inch and pulled one that was a couple inches away. Just for fun I smacked the large steel target at 300 yards. Second group was just over an inch for all three and about three inches right, due to wind drift. Just over 1/2MOA for a factory SPS stainless with factory Hornady Superperformance 140 SSTs.... I'll take it :)

Went back to the 300 yard steel and made a head shot on it. Then went for that little hanging steel target (guessing it is about 6 inches, but could be wrong). Held a little high for drop, little left for wind... nailed it! Makes you feel good and gives confidence in the rifle. Is ready for to smack a deer this fall.

Buddy's (Three-oh-eight) new 700 7mm-08 is proving to be a nice setup as well. Has about a box through it and shows a lot of potential.

Then we shot up 100 rounds through his Kimber 1911. Nice gun, first time shooting a 1911. I still like Glocks though :)  Though I didn't do bad at all with it, made me want to do a shooting course so I can get better.

Yep. Less money, lighter weight, feels better in my hand. Didn't say they're better, said I still like them.

To each his own. Personally I'm not a fan of 1911's in general due to size+weight vs capacity but their triggers and easy accuracy makes up for that quite a bit. A Glock I can respect for reliability and durability as well as decent capacity however their triggers blow goats and their accuracy seems to leave something to be desired.

Sounds like you had a fun time at the range!
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Next time you go out, shoot that 1911 at 100yds and a steel gong....using a bag for a rest of course...You'd be VERY suprised how well you can shoot one, even if they are BIG and SLOW bullets.
I left it better than I found it...did you?
I hunt animals because veggies are too easy to stalk.
