Ok whats more effective???
« on: August 18, 2010, 11:59:36 AM »
So got a couple bear in the area but having a hard time seeing them.. should I walk the area or just hold up? Also what is the best time to hunt morning or night.  I am new to the bear game... last year was first year I tried at all and spent about 20 days hiking and looking at tracks, scat, etc and just trying to learn. The areas i am hunting are in the Sultan, area.. and really no pressure from hunters. I have free reign on the area. Tracks Im seeing are pretty big and from others I have talked with the bigger of the bear is like 350 plus

Thanks guys

Brian
If there is a bass in it I will catch it.

a big bear is going to have a nose like nothing you have ever faced, aimlessly walking in hopes of seeing a big bear long enough to shoot is not a good plan. I would key in on the food in the area....berries etc. then try to gain a vantage point where you can glass the area. if you think he might be in there try setting up a calling stand, with extreme attention to the wind.

you will not likely get the chance to be busted twice.

if you pay attention to wind you can walk right up to a bear if they don't hear you..finding the bear to stalk is another story..they might as well have forty eyes with the smeller they have..you could also saturate an area with your scent and screw it up...I like the morning hunts, the air is damper, and I just seem to see more in the am..Evenings they come out but I'm usually not big on dumping one then, and working in the dark..that's just me,even though I have..if there is a good food source there,I would hang back aways and wait, they will come...

I agree with just about everything already mentioned. However, I would suggest letting me know where you saw this brute. I would be happy to let you know how things work out.
