Blue Mtn Bears

What is an 'average' bear in the Blues? (length or weight) They seem to be quite smaller than bears I've seen on here from the wet side.

It's hard to say an average size, there are probably more 130 to 170lb bears killed than any other size.

should be real good for the opener as the berries are just starting :)

I killed a sow in the Dayton unit a few years ago that was probably only 125, but got the tooth data back and she aged out at 19 years old.  Killed another old sow in 49 DN this spring and same thing, 125 soaking wet, but looks like she'll hit 15 years old.  Even though they're old, they aren't very big... but I bet they really got the fawn/calf finding thing down.

I have taken a couple that went over 300#, one of which was probably 400#. Just the 4 legs without hide or feet weighed 120# on my biggest bear. My brother took one that was about 350# and a buddy got one that was about 300#. A guy I know who owns a large chunk of land said that a hunter took one off of his land that was over 600#. That is hard to believe I know but there is no reason he would have given me BS.

Mature boars easily get over 250# here in the Blues. Don't shoot the dinks and maybe you will find a bruiser bruin.

Rufous knows where to find the bigguns.  The sow I shot a few years back was only a little over 100 lbs.  Ground shrinkage... :chuckle: (I shot her at about 15 feet...trust me, she looked a lot bigger :chuckle: )
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
