Weyerhaeuser Employees with key access???
« on: August 19, 2010, 11:56:39 AM »
Tikka3...posted under the Ryderwood Gates thread that Weyerhauser employees will have keys this year and vehicle access during hunting season. I assume this is during archery season when the rest of us are on foot or bike. Can anyone else confirm this?

I don't know, but I wonder if they have any job openings?  That would be a nice perk.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Yes they do. But if its closed for fire danger then they still can't go in. But if its just a locked gate then they can.

I've seen guys driving behind locked gates on property other than Weyerhaeuser's during hunting seasons. The ones I've come across were polite and left after they knew I was there. Even offered to let me drive up there. Said no thanks. They did, unfortunately, push a buck into hiding that was nearby - just out of sight of me at the moment.

I do not know in that certain area but yes the workers can go behind locked gates and hunt. My uncle retired a few years back and he used to be able to go behind the gates.

I've had a few guys drive by over the last few years, but not alot. Just wondering if this is a policy change that could impact our hunting. As it stands now I kind of like going in 2+ miles and not seeing anyone.

Might just be a case of the company looking out after their employee's. Most in that industry are going on year #2 without raises (as are most people who actually work), maybe they threw that out there just to show they care....

Year 2 those lucky dogs. I'm on year 3 right now. I've been thinking about asking the boss man if I can work 4 days a week for the same pay or take 2 extra weeks of vacation. Of course that ain't going to happen, but I'm just happy to have a job and a great boss.

I have worked for them for 20 yrs and i am a boss at the new sawmill in longview. I don't have a key and have not heard of any one else having that privilege. I know the loggers have keys but the company as been stricter on personal use. I know they do take advantage of it though.

If you can speak spanish you may get a key they all have them. Cedar cutters-fern pickers-tree planters-brush cutters the woods are full of them with 10 in a van they have permits to be behind locked gates and during hunting season.

Last year during archery season i knew a Weyco employee along with a few others that were given keys and permission to drive around the woods during fire season (archery season) and "report" any unauthorized vehicles on weyco property. These guys are hunters so it worked out perfect for them and whoever was riding with them. But weyco said it was so they could narc on people who were in restricted areas. that may or may not be the case this year.

This year they.actually. issued laminated permits with a photocopy of their drivers licence on it. They are 100% kosher anywhere behind any Weyerhouser locked gate. As long as its not closed for fire danger.

I have key's for almost any gate in wa. private timber co. and state and federal. Most of the state guy's are pretty hard about not being behind a gate unless you are working, private the same way. the forest service on the other hand could care less, they get paid marchin or fightin so why fight.
go ahead on er.

I'm not sure if it's all or part of the land. But they had a drawing for gate keys for Weyco employees. I know a guy who got a multiseason elk tag and his buddy drew the gate key. It's like winning the lotto 2x :chuckle:
