pin sight with LED, legal?
« on: August 19, 2010, 07:56:26 PM »
Just picked up a pin sight that has an LED light that I can turn on or off to illuminate the fiber optics in the pins.  Is this legal in Washington or do I need to remove the light?

No, and yes.

Not electrical.  It's battery powered.

Just kidding.  Thanks guys.  I'll take it off.  The kids will like playing with it.

yep a no no here. some sights like my trophy ridge use little mini light sticks to light up the pins in low light conditions they work great :IBCOOL: and are legal because they are chemical not battery powered :IBCOOL: you can tape then to about any sight and the fiberoptics will use the light and make you pins shine :IBCOOL:

What if you were night hunting with your bow for racoon, bobcat, ect. you know, the legal stuff you can shoot at night with your gun with the light/scope. should be legal to do so in the same time frame. let me know if any of this is incorrect.

I don't think it matters what time of day.  Can't use anything with batteries on your bow or arrow.  I think its legal to have electronics on a rifle when hunting here just not archery equipment

Some of the lights that come with sights have a warning on them not to look directly into the light.
You might reconsider giving it to your kids to play with.

You know what is funny, at least in my opinion, today's fiberoptics are MUCH brighter than sights with lighted hoods.  I used to hunt almost exclusively out of a treestand with a Keller Pendulum sight that had a lighted hood.  When I got to WA I took the hood off, but my fiber sights were much brighter in low light than my lighted hood by a long shot!
