New sow & cub
« on: August 29, 2010, 11:17:44 PM »
These two came strolling through one of my deer spots.  No collar but a nice red ear tag.

This was the first pic.  There was a doe hanging around just prior to this photo.  I put the camera here because there are four maples that were peeled within 20 yards of this spot.  I got "woofed" at one day in this spot recently and had a small bear bust out in front of me.  It was like a black furry bowling ball tunneling through the ferns at 20 mph  :chuckle:  Season was open but I wasn't hunting that day.  Little tike anyway.

bow4elk,   Have you gotten that big non-typ blacktail on trail cam yet? Or ever find last years sheds?

Funny you should ask.  The match set I found in 2007 was very close to these photos in this post.  That is another reason I put the camera here because I can't find that buck anywhere.  I found him in '08 by randomly placing the camera in this area thinking he may transition through it.  It worked and proved he was still alive.

I have pics from Jan/Feb before he dropped his antlers and he's since vanished.  I've not had as much time in this area this year but dang, I'm not seeing any good bucks yet.  I spent over 100 hours looking for those sheds since February and have not found anything but one spike shed.  In 2008 I had 13 different bucks identified in the area.  That = 26 sheds, right?  Um...not a single shed found in that whole area but I was getting those bucks on camera AFTER they dropped!!!  I'm dumbfounded how that many antlers can hit the floor and I can't find a single one.  Not to mention the year over year sheds that go un-found.

I jumped a good buck a couple weeks ago that I suspect was the big guy.  He had a lot of velvet up top!  So I soon followed with some cameras and have come up empty so far.  I will hunt him on faith this year because I know where he likes to rut and run does.  I have two stands set already for the October rifle season where I'll be hunting with my bow again.

I'd say the snow levels have messed with your shed hunting this year.  That spot probably just didn't have any deer there when they were dropping sheds.  :twocents:

Nice!  She must have slipped her collar.

I have gotten 5 CF bears on camera this year and not a single one has ear tags or collars.
