first bear down
« on: August 23, 2010, 11:12:00 PM »
sunday morning went out, had done about 6 other hunts in various spots, usually walking in at least 1-1/2 miles in before going off into the woods. was out by myself, got a late start, thought i was just look around/make new trails. about the third corner i caught it coming out of some brush crossing a little opening. one shot @50 yds. from the 1903 springfield 30-06 180 gr. core lokt, through the heart. it made it maybe 30 yds. drug it 50 yds to the road then another 250 back to the truck. so much for all the hiking i've been doing to get way in there. SHE ended up only being 165-175 pounds without the guts, its hard to be accurate with a bathroom scale.
If there is anyone that can point me in the direction of somewhere that can do hair on tanning it would be much appreciated, quil ceda said they dont start till late sept, and no luck with anyone else.
I live in monroe so pref. somewhere within about an hour.

Nice bear thanks for posting. Would be nice to find out where you end up taking it to because i live in Sultan and would like somewhere close as well if possible.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Even most local guys send their hides out for tanning.  There's a guy I use that tans his own and he was quite a bit cheaper cause he wasn't relaying them all across the states, but he's way down south in Woodland, so that doesn't do you much good?

Good job. I'm still waiting to bag my first one. I'll be out in your area Friday.
