jim shockey gold ffg

i picked some of this up at bobs sporting goods in longview. i did not think  my wolverine would shoot worth a crap with this. they were all out. so some one likes it when i went back for another can of it yesterday. well i shot it at 50 yds with the barnes tmz's with a harvester sabot and i hit around the bullseye at least 5 times. i was useing 90 grains with rws musket caps. never had a hang fire with these german musket caps.  this stuff seems a little cleaner than triple seven. got my rest put together. so will give another try at 75  and 100 yds. this weekend. any one else try this with any luck.

I believe it is made by the guy's that make American pioneer. It does burn clean but is not as hot as T7. Meaning your velocity volume for volume will be less with Shockey than T7. I have had American Pioneer not fire in the wet.

This is what Randy Wakeman has to say about it:

Quote
American Pioneer / Shockey's Gold

This ascorbic acid based propellant is horribly inconsistent, erratic in velocity, and needs comparatively huge charges to get good velocity. While not aggressively corrosive to gun barrels, it violently attacks brass. It also can leave a peculiar fouling ring at the muzzle. It is, by far, the worst muzzleloading propellant on the market. It is just pathetically bad.

I started using the APP 50gr sticks last year with the Barnes TMZ 250gr bullets.  I haven't shot over the chrono but accuracy has been excellent and have had no problem lighting it off with #11 mags.

Another thought is the sticks and pellets use a binder or glue to hold the powder together so usually they will burn a little slower than loose also.

I've used American Pioneer powder, which Jim Shockey Gold is just an upgrade to American Pioneer.  I would use one batch which worked just fine, and another batch which would be very low in velocity.  It was flat out inconstant.  For this reason I decided not to shoot the Jim Shockey Gold in fear that It will also be inconstant.

I do hope you have better luck with it!!

Seems to make sense. I am much more consistent with powder vs pellets. The 777 works very good for me

I really like T7 it has worked very good for me. The only other powder I use is Clearshot in my M/L shotgun.
