Of Bees and things
« on: August 27, 2010, 08:08:38 PM »
This afternoon was another photo taking opportunity waiting to happen, so I took Full advantage of it.

All of these photos were taken on Macro (with my 18-55 lowly kit lens that everyone considers junk) and as close up as I could get without disturbing my subjects and getting stung.

those black and white "yellow jackets" are as mean as they come. They used to attack us right away when I worked at a tree farm as a kid.

Cool pics Gpa Richard.

saylean,
I know what you mean! They have a BAD Reputation that they try to live up to!  :yike: Would you believe I was only 6 inches or so away from them while I took their photos and I never even got buzzed by one?  :yike: :)

Black and White = Hornets guys,  much bigger, blockier body and even more hurt. They make the dark gray paper nests you find hanging under limbs.

I'm allergic to yellow jackets and bald ( white) and yellow hornets so I watch for them carefully.  BTW my first reaction was at age 35 so because you haven't had a problem does Not mean you  wont.

Early symptoms: itching all over, sweating, hives, increased heart rate, dizziness.....  Get medical help ASAP.

Those are some great pics!
