Late Season Clothing
« on: August 28, 2010, 10:09:48 PM »
I know most of you guys are thinking about early archery  :'(, but due to an L5-S1 fusion I am thinking about early season too, lol. I am wondering about what you guys that wear when it blowing and snowing. I wore Riverswest clothing($) last year and sweat my ass off, then froze my ass of when I sat anywhere for too long. Be great for waterfowl or steelhead but sucked for me who burns some boot leather. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated and looking forward to reading some stories and seeing some pics! Even more to late season

LAYERS!!!  Strip one or two when hiking and replace when sitting.  I use Under Armour cold gear as a base and a scent blocker mid layer.

Agree on layers. I prefer a poly thermal (no cotton allowed...) Layer on in thin layers. Avoid one piece mega parkas, they are great to sleep in, but you need to be able to remove a layer or two for when moving about, then don the extra layers once you chill down a bit.  For legs, I ususally wear just a thermal, then microfiber rain pants. Just these two layers. If really cold, maybe toss in an extra layer of fleece legs.... Wader liner fleece pants are awesome inside raingear.....

For hunting in sloppy wet blowing snow (Western WA...) I wear heavy rubberized raingear over wader liner fleece etc...Dress like a commercial crabber or fisherman...  This system is loud and I actually hate it, but it keeps you dry and warm. Dry and Warm means I can keep hunting...

I have been absolutely amazed with the under armor cold gear. It is an amazing layer.
