Checked the cameras after 5 weeks.
« on: August 30, 2010, 06:33:35 PM »
My buddies camera had pics of elk, some cows, some bulls a couple calves.  After 5 days a cow decided she'd been photoed enough and knocked it out of the tree.  It still took a bunch more shots of legs, butts and eyeballs and even the occasional antler over the next month.

The second (mine) had photos of....some italian restaurant, or at least one picture of it.  So whoever took my card and left this one...Thanks!  So glad you didn't "steal" my card by leaving me another of the same value.  If you think we don't know there are elk there, the tree rubs 50 yards away give it away anyhow!   :dunno:  I guess I am supposed to say thanks for leaving the camera?......Don't be a dirtbag, If you want to look, it's alright by me so long as you put it back and it operates, if you don't want to leave it as you found it, don't mess with it, it's not yours!!!

Yes this is public land, yes it wasn't locked up, yes I halfway expected this, thanks for verifying there are dirtbag hunters also.  I guess we'll see ya up there hunting. :hello:

Not sure why there is a problem with this. We have read this scenario before. The guy doesn't want his photo to surface on here or anywhere else on the internet. If I come across a camera in a spot I am looking into hunting I would do the same if it took my photo. He didn't do any harm. I guess he could have said finders keepers? If you don't want to take this chance then either remove the camera or invest in better equipment! If the person was a dirt bag the camera would be gone. jm:twocents:

Maybe if you tell where abouts this is, somebody might be able to help out.

So your saying you wouldn't be mad if you went to check your tail cam and someone had replaced your card, that had all your game photos, with a blank card?  and correct me if im wrong, but are you also saying that you would resort to stealing someones card if their trail cam simply took a pic of you walking through the woods? if your not doing anything wrong then what does it matter? and also this guy did do some harm. the cam owner may not be out any money, but he sure is s.o.l on his scouting attempts, beacuse of the card thief  hes out time and effort. not trying to attack you, i just dont understand your logic in defending this guy.

So if you invest money and time into the area you are scouting one method of scouting being a trail camera and some one came by and took or damaged your equipment you in know way shape or form would not be upset?  on the other hand if i had a trail camera that i hiked in and set over an area of my choice and you just so happen to walk down and it got a snap shot of you, you would damage it? If that is correct even though the camera is on public land that camera is still my property and you have damaged it! It is an out look like that that tells me you are a P.O.S. that has probably ground check animals, slashed tires on vehicles parked at closed gates, hunted on private land without permission and vandalized other hunters setups on public land, MAP is this true?  if you are a hunter or outdoors man like the rest of us on here you are by no means an ethical one by my standard. Just to clarify one other thing. If i am taking a picture say at a scenic pull out and you think i got a snap shot of you, are you balsy enough to confront me in person? probably better if you didnt right? well same thing with a camera in the field!  :twocents:

Longrange

By the way alot of guys use this forum to vent about something that has not worked out for them in the field, We can talk about it better than maybe trying to get the answer were looking for from a spouse or friend that does not share the hunting desires we do.  We encourage each others opinions even though they differ "almost always" as in this case i think 99.9% you being the odd man out would agree with mike and say there are some real dirtbags out there.

If anyone else on here feels i am wrong about this please correct me and i apologize
Never to far, Just grab another minute!

Map,
This is how I look at it, if the guy is paranoid enough that he wanted his picture removed, he obviously had access to the camera and could put the card in his camera and delete the pic, I seriously doubt he swapped the cards because he is worried about his pic being seen by someone.  I do on the other hand believe whoever took it feels this is "their" area and doesn't want somone else knowing the quality of animals to be found.  The reason it pissed me off is because I spent two days for this process, a day to hike in and set it up and another to go check it and when I say a day I mean 12 hours round trip.  He could have looked at the pics to see the animals and not made me mad, but stealing my pics does make me mad.  Maybe not a big deal if they are easy to get and produce, they are not.  I don't think I should have to be thankful for someone not stealing the camera.  If it's not yours, don't F#@K with it.

I'll hopefully be able to share some photos at least one of the bulls from the area in a couple weeks.

Good Luck hunting everyone!

Mike

Sounds like the beginning of a good movie (Enemy of the State, maybe?). Little do you realize that those photos of the Italian restaurant contain evidence that can bring down a mob boss.  Evidence he wants taken care of, quietly.... have you looked outside your window?  :chuckle:

Map,

i understand that there may be better things to worry about in life, but anyone who has spent time and effort scouting would be upset that their efforts have been in vain thanks to some thief. and ya i am thankful that i can get out in the field but you know, im not going to worry about not being able to until i cant. oh and ya i may be sitting here rubbing my blankey, but its my deer hide blanket that i have thanks to successfull scouting and MODERN RIFLE hunting, so as far as going out and hunting like you suggested... sorry cant do that yet. im not a dirtbag poacher. so until my season opens im gonna spend my time scouting and hopeing dirtbag cardthiefs dont find my cameras. oh and as far as your point of view, your right i never will figure it it because its not worth any more of my time... have a nice day.

Bottom line is this.  If it ain't yours. Don't touch it.  I don't give two $h%# what you think.  If you touch my stuff and I catch you.  GAME OVER!.  No excuse.  I won't touch someone elses stuff and I 100% expect someone else to not touch mine.  It is as simple as that.  Problem is that people just don't respect others any more. TOO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike,

I can see your points and didn't think of that view. I wish you the best and hope you knock a big one down and are able to make the camera work out for you the rest of the season. Perhaps I read this thread at the wrong time, to where a different time I would have posted something a little different? No harm intended to you. Just suggesting there are some great security options that will prevent this from happening. You get "the dirtbags" and the animals!
Best of luck,
Map

Longrange,
Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you.
Rod,
Ok. Nice slogan by the way.
Best of luck to both of you boys this year, hope you can fulfill your quests whatever they may be.

It is correct that it is unfortunate these things happen. For a lot of different reasons though, they do. Eventhough there are wrong ones, they will continue most likely. I was suggesting one can beat this type of situation by investing in the right equipment if they can. I would not damage or steal someone Else's camera, and haven't, eventhough I have came by more than one camera before. ;) Yes, I would be upset if my camera was damaged or stolen, but a switched card I personally could live with...just me.

Best of luck to all of you, didn't mean to stir the pot.
