Talked with the local WDFW officer today and he said that one of the 5 points in that Morris Rd. herd was taken last weekend.

That bull was legally taken with a muzzy on private land.  The WDFW is watching a bunch of elk around here because of increased poaching.  To my surprise, they know every bull in the area.  Wer'e working on finding the poachers who shot the calf in my neighbor's pasture a couple of weeks ago.  Getting close!

I know how it is. I found the carcase of a big bull last year shot during Archery season out off Bald Hill Rd.  Head gone.  Cut off with a saw.  They didn't take a scrap of meat.  I'm a meat hunter. It made me sick.

I just can NOT believe people... They think that poaching is a good thing... But it's NOT it just ruins it for all of us legal hunters that hunt during Archery, Muzzy and  Modern seasons...
What is up with some people? They see elk and they think oh its FREE... It's NOT!! Were was this Calf shot in your neighbors pasture a couple weeks ago? Any description on what kind of car or truck it was? I'm a Taxi Driver and drive around alot and see alot of different things happening!!

YelmHunter.  No rig, they had to have hike either through landlocked state land (no edivdence of that) or through his nieghbor's back pasture.  We have a good idea who it was and the process has begun to verify.

The word poachers gets thrown around on the website like I can't believe. They may be talking about trespassing but if it was shot in a legal unit with a legal weapon then trespassing and poor judgement is all that is.

This calf was shot at 11:30 at night, with a rifle, during early archery with a rifle on private land.  No need to second guess this one.  My wife was sitting at the computer and heard the whole thing go down.  There is NO excuse for "poor judgement"!!!

That was never stated in this thread that I know of. That is down right stupid and uncalled for.

I thought you guys were talking about the bull. Kinda hard to follow along with the 2.

I have to sadly say I witnessed what I believe this gentleman is talking about. In was in the yelm/rainier area. I did see a vehicle running up and down the road trying to keep a herd of Elk from crossing a road and each time that it was successful in turning the herd and keeping it on the land (which I presume they had permission to hunt) another two hunters (one on each side of the field) would move in closing the gap and getting within shooting range. This finally paid off for them at the third go around of running these animals up and down the field. Yes it was shot on legal land and I do think they had permission to hunt there. I just don't think using the vehicle in this manner is consider fair chase. The herd was split up at one time and the majority had escaped onto another property where I bet they did not have permission to hunt!!! (as no one was following these animals over the fences!!) Maybe next time the dude in the truck should just postion himself on foot at the point you think they will cross and if it your planning is good you will have succeeded the same result and not have to run the animals till there tongues are hanging out!! and darn look at the fuel you would have saved!!!! just my two cents.
