i have not shot the vaquero in 44 mag but i have put a lot of rounds down range in a vaquero in 357. i really like the gun myself, i like the grip a lot as well. a lot of the single's don't have a grip i like. nice trigger shoots well. i have been thinking about getting one myself. my buddy is the one who has the vaquero now, that i shoot. i always ask hin to bring it when we go shooting. his is the plane jane model as well. if i recall the sights are fixed on his, would be the only thing i would change. i don't know about all the models. but i would give it a B+ overall. the 44 is going to buck a little more is shooting the mags threw it, with the grips they have. i would be shooting a lot o specials myself :chuckle:

Never think of the Vaquero in 44cal as a Super Blackhawk. It is a much lighter duty frame.

The grip of the VQ is available in two different grip angles. Make sure you like or dislike the standard or Bisley model.

Carpsniperg2, You mention changing the sights on the VQ.. Sorry, they are all fixed groove rear sight. There is no option to install adjustable rear sights, (and not enought metal there for machining), or front blades on a VQ.  http://ruger.com/products/vaqueroBisley/models.html

The VQ is a nice handling fun gun to shoot, but for real side arm duty as a woods gun, the 5" barreled SBH in 45LC or 44mag are very nice to have.  I personally carry either a 5 1/2" SS 44 RH, or a Bisley 7 1/2" SBH for a side arm in the woods. I can load them with some pretty hot loads and not worry about breaking the frame when I fire. Heavy loads that are 'in the book' would not be advised for a Vaquero. (That goes for factory defensive loads too.)

i knew his gun you could not, but i wish you could is what i am getting at. i knew there are a couple models and i have not looked at them side by side. so i was hopin maybe the higher end models you could. but i guess not :bash: o well still a great gun.

he has the regular stain/black. the bisley and sass models is what i was hopin would have adj sights. but they don't. i have shot his enough to know i shoot a little right about 1/2" at 3oclock so i can just hold over on it. but if it was mine it would drive me nuts but it is his. he shoots dead on with it, so its all good.

i shoot a little right about 1/2" at 3oclock

(assuming you're a right hand shooter)  Next time you shoot it, try not putting your trigger finder in so far in the trigger guard. Put the pad of your finger where the swirls of the print all come together right over the center of the trigger curve. What happens when a person puts their finger in so that the edge of the trigger is touching the first joint/fold of the finger, creates a pull to the side when queezing the trigger. Also, as you take hold of the gun, set the center of the back of the grip/frame centered in the 'Y' web of the palm of your hand.

If the gun shoots to where the sights are pointing, then it's not the sights that need adjustment, it's the shooter.  ;)

thanks for the lesson coach ;) i think it might be my grip as well. i have always been a finger tip shooter with single actions. i was taught just the way you are teaching to shoot handguns. but some of the dam trigger pulls on the doubles now days. Gard to tip shoot :chuckle: the grip of any of my handguns or handguns i shoot. i let go to the most conferable spot in my hand to shoot them. like where they fall into when i pick them up. me myself i don't like to have to try to get a grip on a gun to make it shoot. in a time of o S*&^ i don't like to have to worry about my grip. but yes on the range if i wanted to change my grip then it could be done just fine and 99% chance fix the small issue. thanks for the pointers ;)
