Will buy Capes! (Michelle Nelson Taxidermy)
« on: August 31, 2010, 07:00:08 PM »
I'm in need of some Extra Capes for stock.  Every year I get in the occational animal with a cape that is unmountable for one reason or another and I like to have stock capes on hand for those that may need one.  These are the capes I am most interested in:

Blacktail Deer
Mule Deer
Whitetail Deer
Antelope
Elk
Moose
Black Bear
(full hides must include claws)

Price depends on the size and quality of the cape.  Deer Capes bring up to $75. Elk up to $125.  I will exchange antler plaques for capes or shop credit.  If I have enough cash available sometimes I will pay cash.

If any of you shoot an animal with a nice cape and decent neck size and don't plan on mounting it, please let me know.  Just cape it out and put it in the freezer or bring it right to me.  The antlers and/or Horns will be returned to you.  If you have any questions just give me a call: (360) 704 - 0034.

It seems guys might want to trade a cape for a euro mount.  I'm not sure what your costs are, but it is a shame to see so many capes thrown away when people could use them.

What would it cost to ship a cape from the east side.  I may be able to send some your way.

I was thinking the same thing. If I get a deer or an elk this year I will want something to commemorate my first kill, but can't really afford much. Trading the cape towards the cost of a european mount would be perfect for me and possibly for others in similar financial situation.

Gringo31,

I am not sure the exact costs for shipping a cape from the east side to me.  Depends if you have the thing already caped off the skull.  If you do have it caped off the skull throw it in the freezer for a week or so and than just ship it regular USPS.  Of course i would wait until it got a little colder out side to ship.  Should be mostly frozen still when I got it.

Atroxus,

When you bring in a cape than you can use your shop credit towards anything.

Right now I am trading capes for antler plaques.  Deer cape for a Deer antler plaque and Elk Cape for an Elk antler plaque.  Deer plaques run $125 and Elk $160.

Boneaddict,

Split that thing all the way down the back.

I know of one buck killed but it's cape was half summer hair, half winter coat.  Is that anything you can work with? (for the future, this particular cape is gone)

Hope to get you an elk cape this weekend.  Does it matter cow or bull?

Just a question out of curiosity...

How do you deal with smaller necked deer pre-rut?  Does it stretch?

Hey Jason not interested in Bear Capes.  Just full hides.

Gringo31, what do you mean by smaller necked deer.  They are not going to stretch that much more than what they already are.  Sometimes when they are coming out of rut and they are starting to loose the swell I can get a little bit of it back.

Michelle,
Are you interested in full bear hides still this year?  I am going out this weekend bear hunting in an area we have been seeing lots of animals.  PM me if interested and I am ialso nterested to know what the typical going rate would be.  I will be just south of you in Lewis County this weekend.
