That is a monster ram, any idea on the horn length?  How long ago, was it recent?

I was going to say, wow!  I've seen some big ones but that thing is huge!  Looks like an Argali Ram and still looks like it has its lamb tips.

Ram is a monster, 48", 13.5 bases, ~180 BC.  Was killed in the hard park portion of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park by a qualified "subsistence" hunter.  Gotta live off the grid up here and prove some sort of heritage pre-1980 park hunting usage to qualify, or something like that.  You can't just go there and hunt.

Not to take anything away from the ram.  My source says he was accompanied by a noted sheep hunter/guide (for his own fun?) and they burned through some serious shoe leather to get the ram.  I know about where they went, and it's the biggest, roughest, and most unforgiving sheep country in the state.  The ram was hurting and moving slow, but was in an absolute armpit of a spot - something like 13-14 years old.

I thought maybe he was hunting in Tajikistan.

Heck of a ram and thanks for posting Alanger.  Thanks for the story Jerry.  Keeps a guy thinking that there just may be another thinhorn out there that may equal or best the Great Chadwick Ram; the only North American Ram with both horns 50" or larger.  For what it's worth Jager, there has never been a recorded dall (I believe) that has hit the 190 mark.  The Swank ram came real close and the number 2 drops down to 185 and change.  Love looking at big rams.

He is a Beauty!     I thought the record was an inch or two shy of 190.  :o
