Meat on its way to the freezer :)
« on: September 02, 2010, 09:25:48 PM »
First bear, not a big one but its meat in the freezer :)

My son and I went out today at about 4:30 PM.  We were on our way to park the truck as we passed the hillside I wanted to watch, its full of raspberries, I see her about 30 yards off the road.  I tell my son to keep going as I didn't want to stop and spook her.  We'll we've been havin some trouble with the Yukon, its just dies out sometimes and I haven't narrowed the problem down yet.  He drive's about 20 feet and wouldn't  you know it, the yukon dies right there.  Well I grab the old Ruger #1 25-06 and look to see if she's still there.  SHE IS!! :IBCOOL:  I step off the road a little and there she is, her right paw up on a downed tree and her nose in the air just nibblin away at them raspberries.  She's 30 yards away, I raise that single shot at her, pull the trigger, and she begins to run down hill right toward me.  As I'm jackin another round into the old Ruger, she stops 10 feet from where she was and piled up.  Meat in the freezer!!  Now I can go after the big one. OH ya, she had an ear ring too?  Guess I gots to find out whats that all about in the AM.

Does WDFW have the tag info on their website or do I need to call them?

i've never seen anything on their website about ear tag info...call them and talk with the biologist in the area you harvested it....i'm sure they'd want the info as it could have been an animal that they caught/tranquilized in an area and released to a different area???  who knows but will make a great story when you know the history of the bear
