GPS options Garmin
« on: September 10, 2011, 07:42:38 PM »
My friend has the Garmin Oregon, shows the road you are on when driving along, turn offs, etc., lots of guys say to get the 61 CSx or 62. I am OK with that. Does the 61/62 have the capability to be on the dash showing city streets ? as well as trails and topo. for the hunter?? thanks

Kinda related?

I just got a Garmin nuvi 2300LM (lifetime maps), it shows the road you are on and surrounding roads that you are passing, you can also zoom in/out to whatever level you like. It also shows speed limit for the road you are on beside your actual speed and warns of red light cameras :) . So far it has surpassed expectations for me, I am really liking it! It already seems to have most of the forest service roads and such on it but doesn't mark trail heads or anything like that. Lock on is fast and trees and such don't seem to be a problem for it either, it locks on just fine from inside my house even! There is an add-on from Garmin for it that has topo detail, trail heads etc etc for Washington and Oregon for $100, I haven't gotten it yet though.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Not as new and fancy as the units you're considering but in my humble opinion, there's nothing better than the Rino series of handhelds.  GPS, topo, roads, and a built-in FRS radio for coordinating with your buddies.  When linked up, you don't even need to talk to know where eachother are....when you press the transmit button, an icon shows up on the other guy's with your location.  Works great for cooridinated stalks, drives, or just to safely and quietly know where your buddy is when it's time to shoot.  My two cents, take a look at the Rino line.
