bear hunting
« on: September 05, 2010, 10:01:55 AM »
this is probably a stupid question but do you think it is too late to look for bears. never hunted them. i have a 270 wsm i use most of the time. i use winchester sivertips in 150 grains. my son wants to see some bear as he has never seen one. i live in lexington. should you be still looking for berry patches  this time of year. any recommended areas to go i live close  to the coweeman. the winston, margaret, toutle, ryderwood are close to where i live. which do you think would be the best to try. have some calls from bear man rick to try as well. thanks

I agree - it's just priming up right now for berries up high.

areas that hold huckleberries are where you want to be. you probably want to get up high as you can this time of year to glass. kind of funny i see elk and deer all the time but never seen a bear. thanks

It's not at all too late! I shot one yesterday and my son got one the day before that...

Get your rifle & binos up into the hills overlooking some berry bush patches and have at it!

Heck, I was more worried about it being EARLY! The cool temps are NICE. You get up there a ways, a big cooler is nice on the hot days to cool the meat and hide. Hate to waste any.
