     In fact I read this statistic not long ago in some sport magazine.

Now now Idabooner... Don't believe everything you read.     But like others have said, and I've read it too, we all have heard stories of generations before us that only ever had one lever gun in 30WCF, (30-30) , to do their business with. Bear, Deer, Elk.. It will get the job done if you do your part.

It was just bad luck. I wouldnt blame the rifle or the shooter after seeing the abuse a bear can take first hand. I shot one last year at 75yds with a .338 win mag right though the heart/lungs and it turn and ran straight at me so I put another round in it which flipped it and the thing was still trying to breath even though it had no lungs heart or anything cause it was all liqiud inside. I give props to the effort he put in to looking for the animal and have great respect for him because he did.

Sorry Saylean you did not get your bear, you sure worked hard to find it and I commend you for trying so hard to find the bear, and calling your first tag filled that's a true sportsman you are all class. It is just bad luck like was said before.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I will be back out there again shortly, hoping to smell the carcass, maybe find the skull, notch the tag officially. I apologize for the lack of response, I was elk hunting, with some success! Will post on that in a bit, just got back....

The only reason I was able to find my elk while archery hunting in the Colockum was due to Sayleans dedication and tenacity (2.5 miles of tracking)....and he was under the weather.
I have been on other hunts with him, only growing tired trying to assist finding wounded animals by others. You will not find a more moral, ethical person.
My daughter still remembers him calling in the coyote on our property. that was the beginning of her becoming a hunter.
