Traditions Evolution LD .50 CAL, 1-28"
« on: September 06, 2010, 07:46:26 PM »
I wanted to see who else is shooting a Traditions .50 cal and what load they have found that works good.  I am shooting the Hodgdon Pyrodex 50/50 pellets.  2- Pellets for 100 gr. load followed by a 295 gr. Powerbelt Premium Hollow Point Bullet.  They are the green in color ones.  I have had good accuracy with the muzzle loader.  I wanted to see if anyone may have a better load set up that they may be willing to share?

Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I'll be happy to report as soon as I receive my vortek and get to the range!

I shoot an evolution, and I experimented a lot with loads and bullets.  I found I could shoot anywhere from 90 to 120 grains of powder pretty accurate.  I use the same powerbelts you do, but I have a bunch of other bullets/sabots that I use without a problem.  I did notice my accuracy fell apart when I tried 150 grains of pyrodex.  Anymore, I just use 100 grains of loose powder, or two pellets for convenience when I'm hunting.

The biggest complaint I have with the rifle is the crude safetly mechanism and the rough trigger.  I may try to polish some parts to smooth things out.  Otherwise, it's been a pretty easy gun to shoot.
