Fishing today:bad-good-great!!!
« on: September 06, 2010, 10:29:51 PM »
well went to bed at 1am got up at 4 to fish with huntbear and micahash1 on the klick. very slow about 10 guys with lines in the water. only one person caught a fish from about 5-9. then me and huntbear, took off to the white salmon. huntbear hooked a toad chinook and after a fight it got off. was probably around 35-40 lbs was a beast. then i hooked a steelie about 6-7 pounds fought it for a bit. i must of had a bad spot in the line and it broke off when at the bank about 6 feet up from my swivel. :bash: then the good huntbear got a nice keeper around 7 pounds :IBCOOL: then i whacked a toad steelie!!! we thought it was a chinook at first but it was a mondo steelie :IBCOOL: fought the hell out of it when up river then out the mouth then up river again :yike: got ti close and the net snagged on huntbear when he was trying to net it :yike: but got it back up and got it in the net :IBCOOL: what a hoss  we weighed it with a cheap scale a guy had there it said 14.8 lbs with guts and all. i cleaned it and that was all we got. but one fish each and about 14hrs of fishing. we are both very happy :IBCOOL: weighed the fish when i got home with out guts and eggs on my high end bow scale. it was 15.4 lbs so with guts i am sure it was a little over 16 pounds :yike: dam big steelie :IBCOOL: also it was between 32-33" long :IBCOOL: the fiberglass blank i put on the fish is 34" long. here are the pics of mine. thanks huntbear for hanging with me and micahash1 for the eggs and the invite. i am sure huntbear will post his pics later or tomorrow.

Great fish! Are you guys using lures or bait?

I don't think I fish spinners for steelies correctly, I always seem to piss them off and they head-smack the lure so I get them in the side of the head, I stopped fishing spinners for them since they are always damaged to the point they won't survive if I have to release them. I hate releasing fish that are so torn up I know they will die. :(

yeah they are a agressive fish so they headsmack them a lot. not very many i have seen try to eat them. a few have, but most are hooked more in the side of the face. but yeah it is always sad to turn back a fish you know is not going to make it.

Was a great day fishing.  Carpsniper and micahash1 are great guys, and will be fishing with them as much as they will allow an old smart ass to go with em.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Will get a pic posted of my steelhead in a few, but it looked like a guppy next to carpsniper's.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.
