I have been watching this thread and just wanted to throw my  :twocents: in. Danners have been the only boot I have ever worn. The first pair that I bought were a pair of Canadians back in 97. I have worn them every year hunting and have had no problems. I also have the elk hunters, and well, I have had no problems with them either. None of them leak and I could not be happier.

I got to looking at my boots when everyone was saying that they were made out of the US. Well all mine have the made in Portland Oregon tag on them.

Being in the Search and Rescue profession, all of my aircrew specifically use the Danner Recons (unless the are on the mountain where they have to use crampons and then they use the La Sportiva's). They have for a few years now, and I will tell you they put their boots through more hell then you could actually imagine or what the average hunter puts his through in a year and never once have I heard my "My boots leak" or "My boots are falling apart".

Average wear time before the sole needs to be replaced is about 36-42 months, and that is them being used every day. I just got them all new ones and when they arrived, every single pair is made in Portland, Oregon. I sent the used ones (about 18 pairs) back to Danner for re-conditioning. I know that Danner's customer service (from a military stand point), is excellent. With in a week of them receiving them, they were back in the mail to me.

So, for me I will continue to use Danner until they prove me wrong.

On a side note, while I was working with their military rep, I brought up this question to him. He said they have had some serious issues with their boots and yes, they were sending them overseas to be made. He said that the ammount of unsatisifed customers has pushed them to increase manufacturing back in the US and that by the end of 2011 all Danners would once again be a 100% made in the USA product.

Take it for what is worth. Like I said, just throwing my  :twocents: out there.

we should all write lacrosse and tell them to make the boots the way danner did.they went to crap after lacrosse bought them..My elk hunters are going strong and still dont leak..If the took the elk hunter and put some cordura panels on the sidea so they would breath a little better they would be the ultimate boot..Then take the same boot and make it hiking boot height like thet used to,with the bob sole

Good info washelkhntr, I hope he was not blowing smoke and that they are bringing the manufacturing back to the USA.  Not only because I hate to see jobs going overseas but because I have seen the quality go downhill.  I used to wear rocky's, they were a good boot, then they shipped the manufacture over sea's and nothing but problems, size was off, one boot bigger than the other boot, seams busting etc etc.  I then switched to danners and was happy as a two pecker'd pup.  But some of the new boots guys have been getting the quality and craftmanship is def down.  Not to the extent that rocky went downhill but still there.

Danner needs to get it back in the USA or there rep will be damaged beyond repair sooner than later.

Bought a pair of Trophy's last year.  Very happy with them the first hunting season.  Alaska for moose, Washington for elk and Montana for deer.  They were great.  Three days into this years elk season they started leaking.  I can not justify spending over $300 for a pair of boots that last me one hunting season.  I will be looking at different manufacturers for my next hunting boots.  Have had good luck with Danner in the past, but they are obviously not the same as they used to be.

My cousin spent all Sept. guiding for elk in Wyoming in the Alaska GTX (I think that is the right boot/name) from Lathrop and Sons and he claims they are the best boot he has owned.  I will look at these and the Kenetreks.

I don't think they're bringing any production back to Oregon.  Their new factory is bigger and better than the old one across town, but I think it's to expand production of their good boots that they still make here.  The new factory opened in September.

wife and i both have pronghorns. I like em. this is the closest my wife has ever been to warm feet while stand hunting(1000Grams). I only wear mine when it dips below freezing(1200gram zips), they are very comfortable and neither of our boots leak despite standing in 6-7 inches of water for a test.

Father in law switched from rockies(600gram) to pronghorns(400gram) and not only does his bumb knee feel better at the end of the day up anddown the hills but also his feet are warmer, sweat and stink less, as well as they are lighter.

unless i go to ND or MT next i dont think i'll be wearing my 1200 grams very much after i leave germany.

I have some Danners that sound a lot like yours, they say waterproof on the tag. Well they are NOT waterproof. If the boot dosent have a Gortex lable on them, I wont buy them, my Danners taught me this. I am gonna get some Rockys with gortex. The pair of Rockys I have now NEVER leaked, but are wore out. Thats why I got some Danners, but they are not the quality that Rockys are, at least for me.

I emailed Danner on my Trophy's that leaked after just one season.   They told me to send them back so they could inspect them.  They just sent me a brand new pair.  Can't complain about that for customer service.  Now if the boots will just last for more than one hunting season.

I use to be Danner only guy but after my hunt today the new pronghorns are going back, They're comfortable but I might as well been standing barefoot in the snow. They only insulate the from the ankle up and my feet froze this is even with a two layer sock system a base with wool over.

Danner Pronghorns aren't really a boot to wear in the snow, from what I know of them. They're more of an early season, warm weather boot.

I had my first pair of danners back in 87 that I purchased at the px in germany. They lasted me 12 years because I took care of them by cleaning off the mud at the end of the day and applying polish or water proof. I was a young soldier and had no choice but to keep em clean. I have owned 3 other pair of danners and never had a problem with water because I used water proof.  You can take any piece of leather and put it in water, at some point it will become soaked unless you treat the leather. And never complain about the danners you buy if the were the cheaper models made in china.... that was your stupidity !

I might keep them I wore them out again yesterday. 6" of snow and are good as long as I kept moving and didn't sit to long. I'm not much for sitting anyway. They'll be really good for early season.
