Has anyone heard with the exception of the 1 or 2 posts how guys have been doing up there? Was wondering how busy it is for camping etc. I realize it is a pretty big unit just wondering if it as crazy as the Nile was the last time I muzzle hunted up there...

I know this is probably a stupid question, but do you guys take your jeeps up the 4X4 trails to elk hunt? Always wondered if the guys up there during the summer see a lot of elk when they are getting out there. I camp up there once in a while and fly fish the rivers and drive around and look for elk, but hunting out of a 4X like that seeems like it would be a lot of fun.

Oh yeah. there area always good pockets that hold elk and the jeeps don't bother teh elk at all. They just stand there and watch you go by  :chuckle:
I know of afew areas that are only accessable by 4x4 or good pair of legs and most see 4x4 trails and move on, thinking that there is nothing around  ;)

I camped up the Ravens Roost road and did most of my hunting between Milk Creek and Spring Creek. We saw animals but not as many as we thought we would. I went up Little Naches rd. a few times and saw a couple elk off the 1912 rd. Wasn't able to close the show either. Fun times though. and perhaps a late season hunt after late deer. :)

don't feel bad Pete, we hunted peaches for two days and saw very few elk, only about 10, but TONS of people up the Lt. Naches.  Fortunately where we hunted, we didn't see anybody... :dunno:

We came home yesterday. Had a lot of fun. I missed a HUGE bull the 2nd night. It just seemed that if the clouds rolled in, the elk shut down. We had one good morning; called in 6 bulls. Other than that, it was like pulling teeth. Disappointing hunt, but learned a new area.

We found a calf someone shot and left, just off the Milk Cr Trailhead.

We were up there for most of the season. One guy in our group got a nice cow. It was his first kill ever! One guy shot and lost one. I had a bull tag and didn't connect. Pretty sad hunt.  saw lots of elk and had several chances to kill cows but held out for a bull. Guess I will have to shoot one in the late season.

Shouldn't be a problem finding a nice bull on this hunt. My ex father-in-law drew it and got one Oct 1st first hour. Two years later, I drew with nine points and killed a 336 bull first day first hour. We had four bulls going without a single call. The best part of the rut is the last week of September, first week of October. Both of us should have held out. I saw much bigger. I had my kids State Junior Rodeo finals going in Ellensburg. My son won the All Around the next day so I made the right decision to go watch.  :)

Norsepeak. Did you hear of the bobcat that Bills son shot? That was a pretty lucky deal. Did you guys see many other hunters connect up there?

we saw some bulls, but no cows and only one spike and didn't get close to it.  didn't have a bull tag either.  i was surprised at our lack of cow sightings.  it didn't seem to us that the rut was in full swing yet when we packed out on Thurs evening.  Called in one very nice 5X5.  Am hoping to figure something out for late season.  i'd like to fill the freezer!
Rather be in the woods.

We hunted up there as well, not up the trailhead but up above and someone shot a yearling cow and only took the quarters and backstraps. They wasted all the rib and neck meat. Left it to rot. Not to mention the sick son of a b*&^%$# that take dumps all along the road up there. WTF is wrong with people.

I found  poached cow elk up in the rock creek area, arrow still broken off in the stomach.

They took the rear hindquarters and back sraps,  but i trhink it was killed before the season started, because of the dryness of the reamins and only being a few days after the season started  :bash:

Wow, sounds like I was definitely in the wrong spots. I didnt see squat, lots of fresh sign, but didnt see any elk at all. Guess I wasnt holding my mouth right. Was around Milk Creek in the red dodge p/u. Didnt see the Barbie Jeep, looked but didnt see it. Talked to someone this morning that was camped just off Milk Creek rd past the pond ther, and he said someone took his stuff out of his tent and camp yesterday. What is the matter with people! Would be nice to catch those guys.

I never made it down that low.

I stayed up above the lake where the 4x4s and quads were. Did not know of anyone up there that walked in and a full size rig would not make it. Ran in to a guy that tried, and figured out his wheel base was to long, so he backed out and hunted else where.
