Carbonated Clothing

I read with great interest the well written article “Carbonated Clothing Caught in the Crosshairs” in North American Hunter’s September 2010 issue. NAHC, please keep up the good work.

Living far from Minnesota, I had no idea a law suit had been filed disputing advertising claims made by two clothing manufacturers, one of which advertised the ability to “eliminate” human odor.

Eliminate:
1.   Get rid of something: to put an end to something, usually something undesirable
  They are pledged to eliminate poverty by the end of the century.



It brings to mind two questions:

A: Who really thinks spending a thousand dollars (after underwear, socks, pants, bib over-alls, vest, jacket, hat, face mask, gloves, deodorant, toothpaste, gum and oh yes…spray) on a suit of cloths will let them sneak up to a deer any more than spending a thousand dollars on a suit of cloths will let them sneak up on next year’s super model?

And…

B: What advertising company expects hard-bitten hunters in America to not put their claims to the test (i.e.” Forget the wind, just hunt”), particularly after dropping a few weeks pay on a set of new duds?

Recently, I have been seeing TV hosts sitting around their hunting lodges, frying bacon and drinking coffee (and I surmise smoking cigarettes) in their nice new hunting cloths and they really do give the impression you can cast your cares to the wind (no pun intended) after a quick sprtiz of mystery liquid.

Oh, and by the way…what does “Eliminates 99% of REPLICATED human odor” mean?
They couldn’t find a stinky human?
I’ll volunteer my son for testing.
He needs a job.

Anyone with common sense should know that there is no way you can eliminate human scent 99%.
I laughed when this stuff came out. I know guys who have spent 100's of dollars on this stuff. They will hit the brush get all sweated up and think they are good to go with there no scent clothes.

Scent Blocker is getting sued by a couple hunters because the screwed up at one point and had an add that read 100% scent resistant.  

Several scientist testified against Scent Blocker that there was well below 99% chance of scent elimination. The bad part of the whole thing is Cabelas was named with one other in the lawsuit.
I can't believe we have idiots who call themselves hunters sue Cabelas for product that they carry. Get a life! I suppose they thought there was a 100% success rate with this clothing.

I saw a test on tv, I think Field & Stream did it.  They had a guy walk through the woods to a tree stand on 3 different mornings with the same weather.  The first time he wore regular hunting clothes and boots, the second time he wore regular hunting clothes and rubber boots, the third time he was all duded up in the no scent everything.  at set intervals after he walked to the tree stand, I think it was 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, the testers tracked him with a police dog.  There wasn't any difference between the 3 outfits in how easy the dog found him.  The only thing that mattered was the elapsed time.  Motto- get out early and get set up, pay attention to the wind and save your $$

100% Scent resistent? Doesn't that imply Scent Proof?  dumbanddumber...

How about clothes that make you smell like an apple orchard covered with acorns and horny does...
