Scatter creek for training?
« on: September 11, 2010, 10:32:25 PM »
In the regs it says that you can train at Scatter creek release sight year round but only in a certain area.  Does anyone know what area this is?  I got a good line on some birds for a good price just need to make sure i'm in the right spot to train.

Might be some closures for the early goose hunt?

At Scatter Creek?  Why, there's no geese there?

Don't people go out there to duck hunt? I think there are some regional closures for dog training during the early goose season. I could be wrong, just thought someone was talking about it the other day?

I'd strongly recommend giving the WDFW a call to confirm before training on any of the state sites. Internet forum advice is helpful to get you pointed in the right direction, but not a replacement for a phone call to WDFW.

Call the region 6 office for confirmation regarding Scatter Creek. (360) 249-4628

Cheers!

I would check on availibility as the state leases out areas of Scatter creek for hunt tests ant trials.  Over Labor day weekend there was a big spanial test down there on friday thru monday.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I called the WDFW today and the number 2 area which is the northern area is where you can train year round.  All you  need is a small game license to train on the wild birds that are there, but you can use your own birds too.

I sure wouldn't expect to find any wild birds there. However, in the summer I have often seen chukar that I assume are leftovers from the field trials.

There are wild pheasants around but mostly they are on the private property adjacent to the state land. (like in my backyard)     :)
