Taneum Cows

Ok all you archery hunters, where have you been seeing all of the cows? I have the muzzy cow tag in the Taneum and will be hunting up the end of  taneum creek. camped at the top gate for a week looking for that elusive cow. i have a lot on my trail came just want to know what area has the most cows..

Hunted first 3 days in Taneum and never saw a cow.  Only elk I saw was a dead 6x6 with a very happy forum member standing over it.  I will let him tell his story.

Ya i hope ,will hit it hard. be up there for a week with some friends. have to come home for my daughter 16th birthday on the 4th. wow i am OLD

was up in the colockum today, saw lots of cows. couple spikes. a couple nice bucks. BIG BULLS, one was shot. I dont think you will have a problem finding a cow in the Taneum,

OK got my trailer up on sunday. Had a kid hit my truck on Friday so had a buddy take it up. Saw a Sweet 4 point buck along the hwy. between ext. 78 and 77. 15 yards off the road walking like not a care in the world. Big body.. Nice, to bad my friends are up on the mountain. Probably private by there?? And saw 7 grouse on top No gun. O well this Friday will be up there for the Saturday opener.. Cant Wait.. Cow or Spike.... Good luck to everyone else

I was up high in western Taneum beyond the gates.. nothing but bulls, bears and lots of doe/fawn combo's. Believe me I was looking for a cow too!  Good luck!

I have another of the Taneum cow tags.  I have been up scouting a couple of times with no success, but my hunting partners were up last weekend looking for deer and only found elk.  No spikes, just big bulls and cows.

I will be heading up on Friday and hunting with my 6 year old son.  Hopefully I can show him some elk.

Are you at the upper upper gate off woods/steel road or the (what i call lower gate) in the north fork of the taneum creek right next to the creek?  I've been up there a couple times and have seen a few cows but mostly big bulls.  You may try heading up towards peaches ridge there are typically quite a few elk up there.  Are you hiking it or motorcycle riding?  If you do have a motorcycle you should keep to the trails as they patrol that often during the season.  I got stopped last year by 3 sherrifs who checked my license, tags, and bike registration.  I was on a trail though and legal.

Are camp is by the top gate. Buddies already there deer hunting. I have the trailer on the side they have the wall tents. i will be hunting from the bottom gate and work my way back up to camp. i will be walking and ride the roads on my mountain bike. listening for the bulls and take one of his cows.

  Dang you thought of that strategy too i thought i was the only one.  They're still bugling pretty regularly in the morning, good luck.   I'm going to park below the upper gate so will probably see ya up there.  We're camping to the west about 5 miles back and hunting til Tuesday.

Jeff, good luck.  Sorry I had nothing positive to report from archery season.  I leave Thursday for my moose tag.  Will post pictures if I am successful.

Good luck on that moose tag.  My dad had that same tag a couple  years ago and shot a nice bull, i posted it on here somewhere.
