Baiting
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:43:57 AM »
Been looking the regs and can't find anything....is it legal to bait deer and elk (ie salt licks, COB) during hunting season???   I know the reg says you can't bait bears...but I find nothing for deer and elk.

Gonna post same question is Deer section.

I was totally shocked when a guy at work told me he had been baiting for elk a couple years ago and thought it was illegal since very few places in the country allow it and with the ban on baiting for bear I called WDFW and they clarified that it was indeed legal.  I was still shocked as I started buying bags of deer cane and baiting in some of my select deer spots :chuckle:

Our State is odd in the fact that if it isn't in the Reg's as a rule against, then it's legal. So if you can't find anywhere that it say's not to do something then you can do it. :dunno:

It doesn't seem odd to me at all. It would be odder if they listed EVERYTHING that is legal. Some people think the regulation pamphlet is too big now, just think how thick it would be if they had to list everying that is legal. In fact, I'm not sure it would be possible to list every single thing that is legal to do while hunting.
