My first archery kill!
« on: September 13, 2010, 09:31:22 PM »
Got my first ever archery kill this past weekend.  I'm pretty excited to say the least.

Timber and I went out elk hunting for my Nooksack spike tag last Sunday.  He asked me early on what I was going to shoot.  I told him the first legal animal to walk within range.  Early on we walked up on a couple of cows, but no spikes with them.  Shortly thereafter we had a doe at 20 yards but I didn't even get an arrow out before she was gone.  Later in the day we spooked three deer.  Two went up hill and one ran around us and stopped at 28 yards.  Timber ranged the deer and told me the range.  I pulled the arrow out and took a deep breath and let one fly.  I could see the blood pouring down his side before he took two steps into the tree!  We only had to track him about 100 yards before he went down.  Perfect double lung shot!

I thought he was a doe when I shot at 28 yards, but he turned out to be a buck.  I'm thrilled to have my first archery kill and have some more meat in the freezer.  Now I just need to fill my spike tag next weekend!

Thanks to Timber for taking some awesome pics and helping me with the messy part, I had a great time!

Fantastic!
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

Nice job!  It is a whole new world when 28 yards is a medium distance shot!  Good work.

I'm actually getting a horn mount done.  I want to commemorate my first archery kill!  It's going to look hilarious I'm sure.   :P

No shame in that. Just figured I would ask because that will be one to remember. It has good character.
