I was just going to ask abou them? 25 years ago we used to shoot the heck out of them, but frankly, I haven't seen many in a long time (well, especially since Im here in Montana now! :chuckle:)

Hows the population???

I've seen quite a few this year but I think the hunting would be a lot better if it opened September 1st. I'm not hunting them because I'm too busy with scouting deer and then hunting starting on the 25th. Otherwise I would love to do some pigeon hunting. I haven't hunted them for about 20 years.

I am surprised that they even have a season with the small amount out there compared to what it used to be.

Back in about 85' we used to shoot them up pretty good... head up onto Haystack via Stossel Creek and walk logging roads and just blast away... like Dove hunting in the mountains!

I was seeing quite a few leading up to and the first couple weeks of bear season. I even requested for the pigeon authorization which I never done before but I haven't seen any since Sept 1. I didn't even pick up the authorization, no birds to hunt in my area anymore. I am guessing the poor berry season in my area just pushed them farther south. Besides the limit is two birds..
