Colockum Elk?
« on: September 16, 2010, 12:40:14 PM »
Anyone have any info on how the Colockum hunters are doin' this year?
I can't even concentrate on work today...I head out with my bow tomorrow morning.
I get 1.5 days to try and make it my 5th consecutive spike.

I was up there last night. Me and my son saw a her of 29 elk in one herd. there was one spike, one 1x2 and one 6x6. They weren't spooked at all They ran in front of my truck around 6pm. I jumped out of the truck and cow called to they and they all stopped and just stared at me. every time they went to move the spike was in the middle of all the elk with no shot. Every time I cow called they would stop. The bull even bugled after a few cow calls. I talked to one guy that has been up there with a few friends since opening day. They had 2 spikes in camp. Lots of elk up there. I see elk every trip I take up there.

That's what I like to hear!!!!
Last year I saw 23 True Spikes in the first 3 days.  Yeah, I was out in the field from 4am to 8pm, and didn't get a shot until the 9th day, but man I was in the elk everyday.
Too bad most of them migrated to the Blue's, or were shot by the Indi....(NO...don't get off topic!)

Funny you should mention that.  That's what I heard too.  The Game Biologist said that they have had alot of problems with the elk in the Colockum migrating to the blues.  Especially the bigger bulls.  I guess he said that 82.6% of the branch bulls in the Colockum have migrated to the Blues in the past couple of years.  I guess if a guy wants to shoot a big  bull he should stay far far away from the Colockum and head towards the Blue mountains.  :chuckle:
