Pasayten horses found and back home!!!
« on: September 16, 2010, 09:02:12 PM »
We are missing our 2 horses after a lightning/thunderstorm that passed through the area earlier this week. 1 sorrel mare (brownish red with blonde mane and tail) and 1 paint mare white brown/black with one blue eye. Believed to have broken their hobbles according to earlier tracking this week. If spotted or have any info please contact Mike Henne 509-698-4574
We lost them on Tuesday near Windy Peak and tracked them into Long Swamp Trail.
If located they can be taken to the Tonasket Veterinarian Services ph. 509-486-2166

Bummer....  Next time put homemade Hound Collar belt for Horse Neck when your gone camping. We made it for our horses in case we lost them and always find them later with Radio Tracker.

Hope you get them back ok.

Thats terrible, hopefully a hunter with some common sense comes across them. I found a horse in Glacier Peak during high buck a few years ago and led it to the trail head where a releaved owner was.

Sad to hear, I hope that the horses are found.

From what I heard there is quiet a few camps this year, so I would hope someone would bring them out.  Let us know when they are found.

Will hunt for food.

Did you post a description of the horses and contact info at the trailheads?  Hope everything turns out good.
I've hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted.

Well....  I just got home from the Pasayten.  I have had no luck finding them.  We wore out my partners horses.  They could go no more.  Anyone have any time, and a fresh horse?  I would be willing to head straight back in there with anyone. I do not have to return to work until Wednesday.  BTW we did see a huge bear right on the top of the peak.

I posted notes at Long Swamp and Iron Gate trail head.  I also left notes at the Loomis store, the Tonasket vet, the feed store and the junction mini mart.  We also spoke to the Border Patrol mounted unit and the forest service.  We spoke to a TON of people up there.  The vet said anyone can drop them in his corrals and he will call me.

I was with MichaelJ a few years back on an elk hunt when we lost his sister's horse for three days.  It finally showed back up.  I guess he has better luck than I do.  I would not wish this on anyone.

Any help would be appreciated.  Get the word out please.

Thanks guys,

Mike Henne

I can not sit here and do nothing.  I borrowed two horses and I am headed back up tomorrow.  I have to return on Tues.  I plan on going to the top of Windy Peak and working around the ridges looking down inside if I can not cut some fresh tracks.  The should make it interesting. Thanks for the concern.  I'll keep you guys posted.  My wife will be monitoring the phones and boards.  Any info will be passed to me ASAP.

You know not being a horse guy I've always just given any horses I've seen in the woods a birth not really paying attention whether they were tied or not because I always assumed they were tied and their owners were somewhere around.  I'll have to actually start checking on that for these types of situations.

Oh course I'd have no idea how to deal with the horse if I found it.  :P  Supposed getting a GPS fix and relaying the info would be better than nothing in that case.
