broadheads for elk

Considering hunting elk with my bow. Any recomendations on broadhead weights, style, etc.?

With 50# you probably should use a cut on contact type of blade.

I use 125 gr snuffers.  Sharpen with a file (grease on the wet side to prevent rust).

They leave an HUGE hole through an animal.

I really like the magnus stingers in 100 grain.  Super strong cut on impact and have a lifetime warranty!

I like my 125 grain Slick Trick Mags. My bull this year went 15 yards, was pretty happy with the results.

I used Carbon Express F15's for the first time this season. Went through the shoulder blade and into the heart. Bowtech General 65#, 390 gr arrow. They fly very nice. There was no tuning necessary for these. I also shoot G5 montecs as well. But the 100Gr F15's worked great this year.

Try Wac'em.  I compared them with my Slick Trick.  The Wac'em out penetrate the ST.  I do carry both though.

If you're shooting 50# I would stick to the advice of others shooting lighter poundage or traditional archers. When I hunted with a 60# recurve I used 145gr Bear Super Razor heads.  They are heavy, cut on contact 2 blade heads.  Never shot an elk with them but they destroyed any and all deer they encountered. Now I shoot a 70# compound and use 100gr G5 montecs. They fly awesome and I've seen them do a number on an elk.  Buddy of mine uses Shuttle T- locks and they also fly great.

50#....what model?  FPS?  It is all going to depend on your FPS I would think as well as arrow weight.  I could pick up an older bear whitetail II pulling 60lbs and not get as good of effect as a newer 40lb bow with the same broadheads.  Everyone's advice is great I think, but for accurate advice I would need to know more.  Maybe I am blind and missed the information.  For what it is worth, I blew threw an elk last year with a hoyt trykon 62.5lbs draw shooting a 30 inch axis at 8.5gpi tipped with a 100grain 3 blade muzzy at 62 yards and the cow only made it 60 yards down hill before expiring.  Best of luck with the bowhunting elk!
