I just bought 2 boxes of ammo from them on-line. The only local place that carried what I was looking for was Cabelas. I wanted a 100 grain premium bullet for my A-Bolt in .25-06 Rem. I chose the Nosler Custom Trophy ammo loaded with 100 gr. Nosler Partitions. These will work well the Ballistic Plex Burris scope I just picked up.
Any way I saved $41 by purchasing this stuff on-line!!!!$10 in gas to get to Cabelas and back, $10 in sales tax and $21 in lower prices!!!
I will be buying there again. If you havn't looked at their web site check it out!

I use them for most of my purchases.  They have real good prices and do good promotions often.  Their shipping is awesome also, usually ship out same day if you get the order in before noon....

A great local shop for most ammo-needs is Surplus Ammo down in Lakewood, ridiculous prices/selection

I've never ordered factory loaded rounds from Midway, but do order many of my reloading components from them.  I have been very happy with their selection, service and availability generally.

Surplus ammo in Lakewood is amazing for standard cal ammo.
Midway is great but you get nailed for shipping costs on lightweight items if the order isn't over $50.
My experience, anyway.
Their item feedback online has been a useful resource to me, too.

How would you guys compare Midway to Natchez? Natchez seems to have a big selection and runs lots of specials. I'm just getting back into reloading, so I'm working from limited current experience.

I guess I'm the odd man out. They just charge too damn much for shipping so when I do order from them I try to order a lot. I hate paying $10.00 shipping for a $20.00 purchase. thats one good thing about cabelas. You can do the in store pick up and save a ton on shipping, unfortunately they just don't have the selection that midways does.

As a person who works in a shipping business, I will tell you this as a fact, the cost of the item you purchased means absolutely NOTHING. If you want me to ship a piece of paper, it will cost you $7, if you want me to ship a 5 pound bag of lead, it will cost you $7. That is to take it from point A to point B.

Now, if you want me to package it. Cost of box $5, cost of packing material, $2, labor, $10. Add that to the cost of shipping, depending on weight, and you are over $20.

Not over thinking it. I have heard this argument before and it is always the same. You still have to pay someone to pick the part and pack it, plus pay for the packing material. It ain't free. And one thing Midway does do very well is packing. And you cannot just "throw" it into an envelope unless you want it destroyed. Envelopes run through a rolling machine to sort and if there is anything hard or breakable it will break and possibly break their machine.

I understand your point on paying as much for shipping as the part. I am the same way. I wait for a sale or make a long list. You also have a choice on how to ship it. I go the cheapest and many times only pay 7-8 bucks.

i have liked midway, graff and sons and natchez shooters supply. cabelas pissed me off when the started charging sales tax when the put the store in washington. but still ship my stuff to me from back east and it takes twice as long to get here so i have gone to these three stores for almost everything i need to order
