First Archery Kill!!!
« on: September 18, 2010, 08:39:38 PM »
Got a nice little 5X4 Rosie last thurs. Was day 9 of a great hunt, hunted a total of 10 days by going up and doing some calling fo rmy buddy's on the last day. We were in elk every day out this year. Great times with the best day still being the day I spent with my son, this is the second year he has come up and hunted a day with me. Killing the bull later was icing on the cake.

here are a few pictures

Hiking back after a 7 mile hike, pretty dam good for a 7 year old.

There are a few of them, wish braeden had been along on the day I shot that bull. Shot him at 12 yards

The day Braeden was with me, I always let him decide how long we hunt. DOn't want him getting burned out or pushed to hard. So at about 8 am we had hiked about 2 miles and he asked if we could go back (we started at 0530) I said sure and asked if we could walk out a road we were close to. He said OK, he headed out the road and shortly heard a couple cow mews, we stopped and I was plannign on how to set up to get my wifes unlce a shot at a cow. Shortly after that I heard a bull chuckle a couple of times, deal was any cows he got the shots bulls were mine. So I told Uncle to take Braeden and set up and I would move up and give them a signal and at that point to have Braeden bugle. He does a real good job voice calling. I give the signal and a little spike bull comes out to see what is going on, he isn't legal here on the West side of Washington so I watched him for a bit and when he walked down the road a bit i call Braeden and Uncle dennis up to watch him. Braeden loved that, just after that we heard to cows talking again. I sent dennis down into the thinned timber and Braeden wanted to go with so he did. They got set up and I started cow and calf calling. the cows came in hot, was awesome to see. Dennis got a shot with Braeden standing beside him. Unfortuantely he missed but it wa a great experience. once things settled down I asked Braeden if he still wanted to go back and he said "NO!" we ended up dogging the herd for awhile. Was very proud of my boy, when it was all done that day we had hiked 7 miles and made his Dad's season by being along. This is his second season of coming up with me and I look forward to a lifetime more.

Cool day/season for sure!  My son is 6, and he's been with me on many hunts.  Just need to pull it together and get something while he's with me!  Congrats!

Congrats on the bull. I can't wait to take my 3 year old with me. That's great you had a chance to take him with you. Plus you got him on elk. I bet that made his day. Keep it up and you will have a hunter on your hands in no time.
It's not the size of the trophy that make's it a trophy.

Nothing better than having the lil guy out with you. Due to weather I was not able to get my duaghter out this year. But next year she will be 3 and we will hit it hard.

Congrats on your bull.
