My six year old son is dying to come up hunting with me. Hope to make it happen for at least a day this year. Great story .

I can tell you that the day my son comes up each year is my favorite day each of the past two seasons. I go out that day knowing it is a mellow hunt day and let him decide when we go back. Want him having fun, last year we slept in a bit then went out. Hunted till he had had enough, which was about a mile and a half out. Hiked back and did some fishing ang grasshopper catching and just let him enjoy being out in the woods. This year was bit more since we were in the woods by 0530 and hiked a lot further but he still was in charge :) like I said he decided he wanted to stay out after we got into the elk. Then once back at camp he spent a bunch of time shooting his bow and just being a boy. Let them enjoy the day and know for the most part it won't be a hard core hunt day.

I agree with Bigmike, that's gotta be one of the most rewarding things to share with your son.  Teaching him the ropes, letting him have some fun, and bagging an Elk in the process.  What more could you ask for  :IBCOOL:  My son is 6 and showing a lot of interest in shooting.  I was thinking that I'd wait until he's 8 before actually getting him out there but maybe he will be my next hunting partner in 2011.  Congrats again, and enjoy the journey !

congrates on the bull. Having your boy along always makes a great time, I took my son out for a short trip deer hunting last year and he had a blast. We went grouse hunting weekend before last and it was fun again even not seeing anything.

Introducing your young one to the outdoors, that's what it's all about!!  I hope he grows up to enjoy the outdoors as much as it seams his dad enjoys it!!

My girlfriends boy said, " Hes got a walking stick!" just like what he gets when I take him hunting. Great smily pics of you two, and a great bull! Congrats!
