Last day of early archery elk

and I'm stuck taking my wife to the doctor again for her broken foot.  No rutting elk for me.  What's the best way to hunt late season elk?  Do they talk?

Late season- probably spot and stalk or track them. Not much talking going on at that time.

If my knee isn't 100% by then, I'll just set up on my watering/wallow hole and wait.

Will they still frequent clearcuts or are they going to be in the woods more?  The unit I'm hunting tops out in elevation at about 1000 ft so, I doubt much snow will be an issue.
