The Sherman Unit

Hi everyone, New to the forum and LOVING it!!!!!, Ok, so my partener and I are heading over to the sherman unit for some whitetails and mulies. Base camp will be at Curlew lake(west side) and was told that Storm King MT was the place to go. This will be our first trip to the area and would really like to at least see some of what we're hunting for. The question is, Is storm king a good bet or a waste of time?  Any thoughts or ideas??? Opinions??? Thanks guys

I am the partner on this hunt and no I am not in shape to hike from the lake to the mountain. what about once we get up to the mountain? or better yet any deer on the west side of the lake? prefferably near rv spot #18?

I am in fine shape but if given the opportunity to drive to the walkin location vs walk  to the walkin location I will choose to drive. we will be puttin the miles on the boots but we are just asking if the area we are talking about hunting is over run with people.  storm king mountain is where we have been steered to and we were just wondering if we are being told correctly.

If you don't have any luck in Storm King try your luck up Lambert Crick.  Just keep in mind that you will have plenty of company.  Good luck!

I get that. I appreciate all the insight and tips that I have recieved here on the forum. You know how it is, going into a new area, hell new half of the state for us, just looking for all the help we can get. lady at Blacks Beach Resort dsaid most people hunt up on Storm King mountain so that is where we started looking.  Taking a newbie buddy and my newbie 9 year old daughter for their first hunt and am hoping to at least see some deer if not actually harvest one. short week to do a new area, we are hoping to learn the gmu a little. we haven't done alot of deer hunting in the past as WDFW has always had the deer and elk season open at the same time and we normally elk hunt the westside. looking for a decent area to spend the next 10 years or so learning and hunting. Thanks again for the help.

Just stay away from Lundimow Meadows, no deer in that area

You can also tell Al and Sharon at BBR hello for me "Al in Port Angeles" part of "Daves crew" I cant make it this year,  Oh and please do your best while in camp, Al isnt in the best of health and takes care of most of that resort by himself, he could use a hand if you get bored !!! 

Have a look West of town around the mines, and also east of Curlew Lake, gobs and gobs of deer in that area and good luck to you !!

You could also stay at the State Park on the east side of the lake, makes for a little less driving !!

we are going to stay at black beach. very nice people to deal with on the phone and I would like to give them the business. Thanks for the info on Al. absolutely we would love to help him out with whatever he needs. I will have my hunting partner do all the work though as he'll tag out long before I do. after all, what are the odds of me tagging out toting a chatterbox 9 year old girl and a new to hunting buddy? just hope the weather cooperates for us.

Hunted that area a couple years ago and never saw another hunter when we got off the road a quarter mile! Saw a few good bucks just could not pull the trigger on them!!!

Hey thanks alot everyone,this is some really good information. We should be able to put together a pretty decent hunting trip for our newbies. Oh,of course I'll give Al a helping hand,be glad too,looks like tagging out before kenzmad is a very real possibilty...

What's the deal with Lundimow Meadows???

It is a nice spot! Huge meadow surrounded by some good steep terrain and creek drainages. It is timber Co. property I beleive. Gated walk in only stuff. You can also enter from Empire Creek road. At least we used to too. Saw one of the biggest WT bucks of my life crossing the road one night near there.....

lambert, storm king, st peters......all good deer hunting and all will be crowded. that is why I moved out of the area, but I did kill plenty of deer there before the crowds move in. part of stormking will have trucks driving around, lambert and st peters may have motorcycles that do not obey the signs.....still a fun time if you can stand people.

The secret to hunting these crowded spots is to scout a few days in advance (carefully so as not to push deer around), find a spot, be in there a couple hours before daylight, sit and wait for the road hunters to push deer to you.  You would be surprised on how well this can work for you.  The key is to slip in quietly, sit quietly and be patient!

Like I said not deer in that area  Truthfully not a lot of monsters but if you put the time in and get more than a 1/2 mile from the rds/trails you will get into deer.
