bears are quick...
« on: September 20, 2010, 06:20:05 AM »
figured I would post this here since I was elk hunting.... was standing on a steep ridge facing downhill ,let out 2 quick cow chirps and 2 seconds later I heard something behind me, turn my head to see a big black ball at 80yards and before I could say bear and get an arrow out of my quiver he was at 30 yards. Well us scrambling to get arrows nocked causes him to hit the breaks and skid about 10 feet before wheeling around and making double time back up the hill.. I knew they were fast but wow almost had to change my shorts....
A hunt based only on trophies taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be, time to commune with your inner soul as you share the outdoors with the birds, the animals, and fish that live there”.- Fred bear

They can be super sneaky and fast when they want to be. I've yet to have one come charging on a call yet but i can imagine once you trigger that predatory response they move!!!

I was already on edge as I shot a cougar last year.  we standing where the cougar came from and we just cut fresh cat tracks 5 minutes before, above us was some rocky bluffs-perfect cougar ambush spot...
