Still looking, I saw a specific mention of this for grouse and am looking for it now.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I want to see what bigtex has to say. He usually knows the laws better than anybody and he says you can't shoot a grouse with a 308 ???     :dunno:

For the sake of the firearm argument, forest grouse (ruffed, blue and spruce) can be hunted anytime during there open season Sept #1 to Dec #31, with any weapon that is legal to use on big game, also shotgun and .22, no other game bird can be hunted with a rifle or a .22.
I can, you can hunt/shoot GROUSE anytime during there open season with a .22, 30-06, 300rum or .410, or if you wish,
a bow or muzzle loader.
I can go out during archery season and hunt grouse with a 30-06 if i wish, or during muzzle loader season, or during the 3rd week of december........
There is no ruling/law that states i can only use a rifle if i wish during modern deer or elk seasons...
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

The gist of what I remember is that you could only use a centerfire rifle for grouse during modern firearm season for deer/elk IF you had a valid deer/elk tag
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Yes i was incorrect about being able to hunt grouse during the deer/elk modern season with a centerfire/shotgun unless you are in possesion of a modern deer or elk tag..
So if you have an unnotched deer tag and wish t take a grouse, go ahead, it legal, now fill your tag day #1 you better switch to a .22 or shotgun with birdshot till modern season is over, then go back to the 30-06 if you want, thats legal..

Yeah but who's going to go hunt grouse with a 30-06, unless they are actually deer hunting, and in that case they will have a deer tag. So you pretty much can shoot grouse with any gun, any time.

I have shot a blue with my .308 pistol (thru the neck, no waste, big one too), but that was more out of frustration. Too many blues in my muley hole. But, I normally carry my .410 pistol in case I need poultry. It is all good!
Its the goin'.....Not the gettin'

I take grouse every year with my 300 win mag, a blast next to their head knocks them senseless. My question is why only during deer and elk season? Why not during bear and cougar modern fire arm as well?
