I think most bitching is a case of envy... I know i wish i had the kind of $$$ it takes to buy the tag, hire the guides and take the time off to slaughter a GINORMOUS bull! I like the idea of the GOV tag..... I just don't trust the WDFW or the GOV to do much meaning full with it... Unless $$$ is in DEDICATED funds it is not guaranteed to go where it is supposed to.. Lotto money was supposed to go to schools, Certain tax hikes to specific projects.... Even dedicated funds are not REALLY dedicated... just take a look at what the Governor did to the license plate fees... they kept the fees but deducted that amount from the WDFW budget.... $$$ and politicians are like dangling an 8ball in front of a crack addict.. they cannot/will not say no!

Kudos to they guy for killing an awsome bull... Just think if we had some sound MGT in this state we could have a great rep like MT,UT,ID WY or other states...  :twocents:

. Also, there is some truth to the fact that archery elk was recently open in many parts of the state and it is likely that this bull could have been harvested with an over the counter tag by a resident. There is opportunity for the common man. Although not equal - it is there.

Ray-
There is nothing but truth that this bull could have been killed by any of the special permit archery tag holders. Not OTC though.

Jackelope,
this is how it all starts with money and putting a value on an animal. If anything it will make hunting more expensive than it already is. If that is not case then why do people but land and then CHARGE people to hunt on it.... its all about money. For what, elk with big horns... way over rated in my book.

lets look at baseball for an example. Ever since "WE" being the fans paid Alex Rodriguez 250 million dollars, the price of going to see a game in person costs the average joe well over a 100.00 bucks.......... now all I am saying is that we are putting a price on going hunting for a animal with big horns. Is this ethical???? not in my book it aint. What are we suppose to tell our kids? " well if we were rich we could go shoot a big one, but since we are not we must kill the little ones.. Bull SHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and as for the price of our tags going up? they will go up no matter what we do as hunters..no matter what............

I guess that depends on where it was killed.

The money goes back into wildlife and goes to help us HUNTERS. Great bull! Would like to be rich so i can buy the Gov. tag one time.

BOUGHT and paid for!!!!!!!!!!! might as well go to a elk farm and buy one too...........

and it really burns my aZZ that it isnt even a resident of our state.......this is crap.. I dont care what the money is used for..... BOUGHT AND PAID FOR..........no thanks...

This isn't hunting, This is paying for an elk!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow...what's the problem there 300. Other people had a crack at that bull too like jackelope mentioned. If you would have drawn the permit or incentive tag it could very well have been you. But you would have had to PAY for a tag. What's the difference.....he just pays a lot more. He bought ONE tag and filled ONE tag. In that respect that is the same as you or me. If it's not your thing then don't buy the goveners tag. Don't have to jump on a fellow hunter and sportsmen for doing something perfectly legal just because you can't do it or don't agree.
You can kill a big one in this state, every year if you scouted and put in time. It is not just for the rich  That is something Dan does not have.

Congrats Dan on another beautiful bull
Just one more day

yep one hunter one tag!!!!!!! Now think about the guy who has bought an elk tag all his life and all he has ever shot were small bulls at best. IF this big bull wasn't bought and paid for. Maybe the common man would have found him and killed him. Who do you think would be more excited ? The rich guy? Or the guy who has busted his azz without PAID GUIDES to find this animal.

Dont get me wrong that I love the fact the money is well used? (MAYBE) Just dont like the fact that we as residents of washington state sell and elk every year. Yes it is just one, but last time I checked we dont have a lot of elk like some other western states......

this thread just goes to show that as you call them "sportsman" put a price on a BULL ELKS horns??????? hmmmm ever wonder why we have poaching? maybe its becuse the horns are worth so much these days.....................

300magman I hear your argument and have heard similar ones many times. I believe in short it is a reasonable compromise to permit this because the impact is very low on elk numbers when considering the entire state, the revenue generated is very high and that it also can contribute to local economy such as outfitters or guides who share similar interests with me on many political levels as well as conservation interests.

You just dont see the point do you????
Someone should try to grow up and understand the benefits this tag has to the state and ALL the hunters.

You just dont get it. :bash:

Theyre all opinions, perhaps people shouldnt get worked up over them....

Its a monster, and sure, everyone else had an opportunity at it, but as the tag goes, why not give another Washintonian the tag? Yes, the money goes to a great cause, but at least it wouldnt go to a non-res (over and over)

3 years in a row should be enough..  :twocents:

That being said, Congrats Mr. Agnew, that bulls just ridiculous!
Theres plenty of room for all of gods animals.... right next to the mashed potatoes!

That just goes to show you what you can get with money............ time and time again. He's gotten the gov. tag the last 3 yrs., must be nice.

Just as nice as being able to afford anything else in life. We all live as we can afford.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.
