2010 High Buck
« on: September 22, 2010, 09:41:40 PM »
The hunt started with 2 hours of steep uphill climbing through very wet brush.  We broke out into the Alpines and jumped a deer but did not see what it was.  Shortly after we were less than a hundred feet from a big bear.  She was spooked and took off with her tiny cub right behind.  We ended up only seeing one doe that night.  After a long cold night sleep with wind wipping the tent and a full moon we awoke to everything covered in frost.  Deer were out everwhere.  Spotted 5 bucks in the bottom at 440 yards.  I snuck down to 270 and watched as they fed across the bottom of the draw.  Unfortunately all of bucks we saw this morning were young, but this one had the biggest body, so I decided on him.   He dropped in his tracks and the hard work began.  After 2 hours of packing out, we were back at the truck with a three hour drive ahead.  Couldn't have asked for a better hunt!

Beautiful country behind you, congrats bud. I knew you guys would pull one out of there.  Sounds like it will produce for years to come if you saw that many young bucks.

Great buck and Congrats. I like how you draped your orange vest over your neck in the last pic.  Saved you a lot of ribbing from the hunter orange police who are on here constantly. Nice job and great pictures.
