Buddy got his Chowder Ridge Goat
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:41:42 AM »
Well, my hunting partner sealed the deal on his goat tag this past Thurs.  He and I packed a spike camp in on Wed. evening, but only needed to spend one night in it.   We had made several scouting trips and hunted last Saturday.  Had not been seeing a lot in the area we were hoping to find the goats.  We found this guy on Thurs. morning at about 8:00  He sat perched on top of a ledge broadside looking at us for about 10 minutes.  We debated quite a while on this Billy.  I felt confident he was going to be in that 9" range but was pretty sure he was not the monster we had originally set our hopes on.   Jeremy decided this is the one he wanted and two shots with the .338 sealed the deal.  This Billy was in a nice accessible location and was haired up real nice.  These two factors coupled with being a beautiful sunny day played a part in him deciding to take this goat.  Too many horror stories of goats tumbling off cliffs, tearing up their hides and horns.  This billy fell flat where he stood.  He caped him out for a lifesize mount.  He is very happy with his Billy.  He went 9 1/8" x 9" and has 5 1/4" bases.  I was happy to help him fulfill his dream and felt privelaged to be along on the outing.
