We used to hunt around Curlew every year. I got my first deer up Long Alec Creek. Love the area, but the deer population seems to be down from years past.

The deer population seems to be growing actually. We have allot more muleys now than when I first moved here.
Whitetails, well, they're always in the fields mooching for feed. I live up Tonasket Creek right south of Long Alec.
I've always got deer here screwing around and making my Rotts bark.

Its been 3 years since we hunted over there. I think the only thing keeping us from coming back over this year is my available vacation days and the price of fuel.... :bash:

I know most of the landowners hate all deer if they're raising cattle. Kill all the coyoyes too.
I went out today and saw about 20 muley does. No bucks. The weather is getting cooler also.
I went up Vulcan all the way around the face to the dead end sign. Saw 2 rigs hunting.

Mnt Annie....
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

We went in September (birds and scouting). We located some deer. All small (no good! We normally see some excellent bucks at this time). The bow hunters lasted about (2) days before they called it and left. We will see how it goes. There are some great bucks in 204, like anywere else, gotta wear your boots out.
Its the goin'.....Not the gettin'

two weeks and I will be back up scouting for the late whitetail hunt. I won't hunt the area until Nov. My buddy and I hunt hard, we put on the miles and get away from the roads and we look to shoot mature animals. So any and all info that I see on this unit is appreciated.  campmeat if you know some farmer/ranchers that want to have the whitetail thinned down a little let me know I might be able to help.

I live 2 miles south of Curlew.
Sweat Creek is off of hwy 20 west of Republic about 10-15 miles, just a guess. Not a hunt for kids. It's a trail from the campground w/toilets.
The deer so far this year have been pretty sparse. Seen allot of bucks but no monsters, yet.
Allot of bear have been taken from what the game warden told me today. I've seen 4 and my wife has seen 7.
I've been hunting/called bears since the season opened...........no luck.
I was told the local game cutter up guy, which I know, has 12 bears in. That's what his wife told me last Thursday.?
The weather has been from 32-75 dergrees with rain right now.
Hope this helps. I've been here 10 years and HUNT all the time.

Campmeat  IF,you hunt everyday, you know the game warden well!!Next time you run into the big, redheaded man, tell him hello from me!!bigbull94.Next time I am in town,I will have to meet you as well!!
