Ok so I did it after some abuse from my .338 win with no recoil pad to speak off. I got a grind to fit limbsaver on the way in hopes of taming the beast a little. I will have to post up the before and after and my experience with it.

i have always used the slip on pads and love them. i am sure you will love the limbsaver on your gun. i have a few of the slip on's that are diffrent sizes. i put them on anything bigger then 24 cal. not just because the recoil reduction " but it is nice on the mags

" but also for the added lenght. i like my guns with the little extra lenght of pull it adds to my guns.

I too use the slip-on for the 338 and it's SOOOOO nice!!! My dentist even noticed the difference.

lol I know that since my current pad is less then a 1/2" that just by being 1" thick should help.

You'll love it. When I found out they were in Shelton I took my 300 in there to buy one. They took my rifle and gave me a slip on. I came back in a couple days and they had installed the permanent one and wouldn't take my money or the slip on back. How cool is that?

I'm glad you're getting the grind to fit model instead of a slip on. Slip-on's fall off. They get dirt trapped in and scratch the stock. They really don't look professional, and really do point out to everyone that you can't handle recoil. The Limbsaver is one of the best. By comparison for anyone else looking to reduce 'felt recoil', the Pachmayr Decelorator is also a very good recoil reduction design. http://www.cabelas.com/p-0012755221101a.shtml

I use the slip on Limbsaver at the range for my 30-06 and 7MM both. I don't use it in the field as I have never felt the recoil when shooting at an animal. That is just me though. One thing I have noticed is that at the range I usually do not have on all the clothes I hunt with, therefore the Limbsaver will give me the same "Trigger Pull Length" at the range as I will have when I am in the field. This way I don't have to make any subconscious adjustments when aiming in at an animal.

After being bruised from chest to elbow i put limbsaver on plus a slip on limbsaver,no more bruising.

Most of us are not "professionals" and I could care less if someone "thinks" that I cannot handle recoil... If a slip-on works use it I say. If I see someone using a slip-on recoil pad I think he/she is smart and knows his/her gun well enough to do so. They are "handling recoil" not recoil handling them.

If you sell the gun the slip-on comes off
If you clean the gun the slip-on comes off
If you change your mind the slip-on comes off
If you find a different pattern/color the slip-on comes off
If you want to use it on another gun the slip-on comes off
If it doesn't work the slip-on comes off

I've had mine on for over a year and it has never budged. It has however, kept me from damaging the lower stock and has made me fall back in love with the 338 Magnum.

3 out of 5 of our rifles have a slip on.

It makes the 257 roberts shoot like a 22cal. (wife's gun and she don't like recoil)

I agree with Elk311, i am not out to look like a professional shooter. I am a hunter and if a slip on works for me or any one else, then right on....

x2 with the slip on's getting the right size for the stock makes a lot of difference. if you get a large and put it on a smaller stocked rifle its going to want to come off.

here is a tip: i have shell carriers on the stock of almost all my rifles. i like to slide them back and put the edge of the limbsaver slip on over it. it will help keep the sleeve from moving around.

What rifle do you have? I have never found that LimbSaver didn't have a match for almost any model. I have them for ruger, savage, browning, Tikka, etc. I was always been able to find the correct fit.

you forgot when you STORE it - the slipon comes off....lol!

And the recoil has not been reduced. The FELT recoil has been cushioned. The gun still jumps.

Those are some sweet recoil pads though..

yeah its just like a lesser cal recoil now. Ill throw some pics up tonight since i figured out how to get them off my phone with out a comp.
