Sorry no experience here but I want one really bad, I have a few lenses from a Minolta 35mm that will fit right on the A100 The trouble I am having is convincing the chief of staff (wife) that I need one !!

When you are buying a dslr you should pick the system (nikon, canon, sony, etc) based on the lenses that brand has.  I have heard that some of the sony lenses are excellent, but they are also really expensive compared to a nikon or canon.  I have no first hand knowledge about the quality or use of this camera.  I think it's a good one from everything I've read.  All cameras do the same thing...record an image that your lens gives it.

Never tried any fisheye lenses, and you will likely be waiting a while if you are waiting for me to give up my lenses, almost as ling as I would have to wait for you to give up your A100 body LOL.

I have seen several Minolta lenses on Craigslist and they weren't all that expensive, in fact I tried to sell my whole 35mm set up on there last year for $50 cause I didn't need it anymore but that was before I knew the lenses would fit the Sony, maybe you will run into a deal like that somewhere.

I wished I had one so I could send you some tips but it looks like you'll be the teacher on this one after I get mine. I'd really like the A700 but I know that will never happen. You never know though, George might send me enough money to get one,  :dunno:

Hope you have fun with it,

What did you find out about going to the beach in April ??

Ouch!.. Well I can't divulge much since they were pm'd to me, but he did ask if I would go bear (bare) hunting and that he "just wanted to get me in the woods" what ever that means. :chuckle:

Lots of focus on the camera...

I'd much rather have an A100 with a good Zeiss lens than an A700 or the new A900 and a cheap lens...  I would lust after this lens rather than any camera...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Zeiss-1680Z-16-80mm-f-3-5-4-5-with-Sony-filters_W0QQitemZ290215369453QQihZ019QQcategoryZ152379QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I am told there is a Minolta 400mm f4.5 lens that can be found for $1500 that is the perfect wildlife lens...if you can find one!

Ok I am sorry I asked, I am just going to quietly back away from this conversation cause I don't want any thing to be said that will jepordize your relationship with him, thank you for the clarification !!  :chuckle:

Please keep the PM's for yourself, Thank You !!
